"I went with a friend who is very particular about hotels. She was dubious, but game to get the full French Quarter experience. Her second visit to New Orleans, my third. I love old things, she prefers new. I loved this hotel, with its exposed brick, skinny double doors, beautiful courtyards, sitting rooms, high ceilings, and exposed floors. She could smell mildew and was close to finding another hotel the first night, but by the next day she was getting more used to it. We stayed there three nights. I slept well and I think she did too, not the least of which from exhaustion from travel and walking. It could have been more meticulously cleaned. Some of the areas (i.e., under the stairs in our suite) could have been dusted. The amenities are limited but the small pool was nice to dip into after coming back from walking in the Louisiana heat and humidity! We both agreed everyone was very nice and tried to be helpful. They offered to put us in another room, but as they said, some things just exist with an very old building and exposed brick. It was a bit of a family feel with three lovable resident cats (and I am not a cat person) that roam the lobby building. It was also well located and it was nice to be able to stop in and change clothes before going back out. In short, I would recommend it to anyone who likes history and wants to experience some of the history of the French Quarter, but if you are looking for new, pools, hot tubs and spas, this is likely not your place."
