Lovely, clean and spacious room. One of the best showers I've used in a long time. The food in the restaurant was simply amazing, both breakfast and dinner. Beautifully presented and every mouthful savoured. Next time we're in this part of the world we will definitely stay here again.

Lovely place to stay - it’s the 4th time we’ve stayed here when visiting the area and it’s always a pleasant experience. Good sized family room with my two sons, and overall a very clean and nice pub hotel with friendly staff.

Our Stay.
We booked for a two night mid week break and felt this was a good area to base ourselves. The Ship Inn provides accommodation which meets the needs of couples, families, and people with pets. A friendly environment with good service throughout. The room itself was clean and the bed so comfortable with refreshments such as tea, coffee, biscuits all prepared and topped up if needed. The bathroom had an overhead shower. Everything in good working order. Breakfast was available until 09:00 which suited us and the service was efficient and welcoming. The porridge and 'Scottish breakfast' was tasty and well presented. Furthermore it was freshly cooked. We really enjoyed our stay and do plan to return- very good value for money and access to beautiful surroundings.

Lovely hotel with great history in a very charming small town. The staff were very friendly. On arrival I sat in the lounge in front of a big wood stove with my pint of beer writing my journal - what a great start. The dining room is good and the food very enjoyable. Allow time to explore the area - there is so much to see.

Lovely refurbished pub hotel, our room was directly over the bar and entrance and was very loud for a small village pub but very well furnished and good supply of tea,coffee. Staff were all very young and a bit inexperienced but tried their best in a very busy restaurant. There were a few hiccups at dinner and breakfast but overall a lovely place to visit

Value for money this is excellent with a terrific restaurant attached. Ideal for all types and rooms are all brand new. Perfect for motorcycle touring, as there is ample parking at the hotel. A hidden gem that requires more recognition for its quality.

The hotel looked newly refurbished, room was very clean, fresh and comfortable. Dining facilities were pleasant. Precautions had clearly been taken in light of COVID and worked very well - very safe. The staff were what stood out to us though; the young chap on the desk (and organising the restaurant for breakfast) was a credit to this hotel. Very friendly, professional and eager to help! 10/10, would stay here again.

The room was clean and comfortable and had 2 chairs to watch TV The evening meal was excellent and the staff very attentive and the dining room ambience was lovely. Would definitely stay again and could not recommend it highly enough.

I would highly recommend this hotel
We had an overnight stay at the Ship Inn following a wedding locally. The staff were very attentive & welcoming. The rooms were clean with very comfortable beds. The owners were friendly & kept the bar open for our return from the wedding.

Nice Inn in a lovely village
When we originally looked at the Ship Inn we liked it because it did meals so we thought we'd not have to go elsewhere for our dinner and could relax with a drink in the bar. However between first looking and then booking the restaurant closed, which we weren't aware of until the day we arrived. We also weren't able to use the toiletries in the bedroom as they contained an allergen (milk). This is the first time I've ever had this issue anywhere. Hopefully it'll be something that will be changed as I think it's a bit dangerous having allergens in the toiletries without having an allergy notice up about them as you have to have with food. Other than that our stay was good, it's a lovely Inn in a great location. The (now underused) dining room/bar is beautifully furnished and the room was fine. There are 2 other hotels/pubs up the road which do evening meals, and there's 2 cafes nearby too so there's choices for eating out within walking distance. The staff were all very pleasant.

A great break
We looked for a hotel in Castle Douglas and were surprised to find Gatehouse was 17 miles away. We considered changing but are so glad we didn't. From our arrival to our departure the friendly staff made us feel so welcome. The hotel has been modernised sympathetically and is clean and comfortable. The restaurant was good and although the choice was not large the food was local and well cooked. Gatehouse is a lovely town with beautiful walks only slightly spoilt by the rain. We will return.

Started as a 5 Star but ended as a 3 Star
The Ship Inn has very nice rooms but after that it's all down hill. We stayed for 2 nights & the room was never cleaned! The Hotels.com lists it having a bar & restaurant which it does but it's not open so why list it? I picked the Ship Inn so at the end of the day we could get dinner & have a drink. We had to walk 10mins (which isn't bad) but if I would have known they didn't have a restaurant/bar I would have picked a different place.

Thank you for your review. The restaurant and bar has been open for 2 years. Due to a family bereavement I was away for 2 nights this year so can only imagine that you visited then. I'm sorry for your room not being cleaned it will have been the first one in 2 years that we've missed but non one including ourselves is perfect. I appreciate you shouldnt require to highlight this but it would have been swiftly remedied had this been brought to the attention of my team. Please contact me direct and I will look into this further and look to apply a discount.

Overnight stay Gatehouse of Fleet
Had an overnight stay on way back from Ireland. The hotel was easy to find and parking was available right outside. Reception was wlecoming and we were shown to our room and everything explained regarding routine, eating, local amenities, etc. The room was a good size- helpful when you've got two peoples wet bike gear to dry out- clean and well furnished. Coffee maker was a plus. Nice view overlooking river and garden. Hotel doesn't do food other than breakfast which was very good, so we ate at the Murray Arms- excelent. Overall, a pleasant stay, nice staff and a good room, would stay again. Ideal for a stop over to/from Cairnryan or visiting the area.

Stylish Inn, But Be Careful Choosing Your Room
The inn has been stylishly refurbished. Our room, in the attic, was small with a ceiling so low my husband couldn't stand up straight in sections. The shower stall was comically small -- no bending over to wash your toes! Service was cheerful both at the desk and in the breakfast room.
