"This was an ‘extra’ overnight stay on our way to a golf tournament at another venue. The receptionist, Charley, was very polite and helpful and apologised for the fact that Hotels.com had not mentioned in my booking that car taking needed to be paid for separately…the only ‘fault’ we could find was that the breakfast only catered for scrambled eggs - no fried or poached options! :-("

Our breakfast was delicious and staff were kind to prepare a special dietary meal for my husband. Will definitely visit The Essex again."

"Great one night stay in a suite (free upgrade which was nice). Rooms lovely and clean. Breakfast was nice although coffee wasn’t great. The coffee in the room was lovely though. Really nice shampoo etc but the sachets aren’t very user friendly - would prefer refillable pumps to keep it eco friendly. Friendly staff on the reception desk. There is noise from outside crowds at night if staying in a front of hotel room but it wasn’t so bad that I wouldn’t stay again. Really enjoyed our stay."

"We had a very nice overnight stay. The hotel decor was welcoming, warm and bright, and all staff were friendly and professional. The beds were fresh, clean and comfortable and the bathroom was very clean. The shower was powerful and hot and there were toiletries provided if needed. We brought our own hairdryer and there didn't appear to be one provided in the room. The heating was efficient and easily adjusted. There was a large selection at the continental breakfast buffet, and the cooked breakfast was hot and fresh, with good quality bacon and sausages. Our only slight criticism was that the breakfast tables were painted wood with no covering and did not appear as clean as they could be. Tea/coffee stains on the table tops and dust in the grooves around the edges detracted from the otherwise lovely, bright breakfast room. The paper menus were also food/drink stained and could easily be replaced. Overall we thought The Dragonfly was a great, reasonably priced hotel for our overnight stay and we would stay there again. "
