This hotel is <5min from the Hauptbahnhof and therefore quite convenient. Very clean, comfortable and totally adequate - but if you are wanting upscale/elegant this is not your spot - go around the corner to the Marriott or to the Ernst near the Dom. I was there on business so proximity was an important factor.

This hotel is close to the central station (2 blocks away). The area is so-so. The person who greeted us didn't barely spoke English or German, so it was hard to communicate. Make sure you have cash Euros for the city tax when you arrive... As in regards to the room, the floor carpet was stained. In the bathroom, the sink was dirty and covered in hair... not very pleasant. Wi-Fi - can't rely on. It would continuously kick me out (every 2 mins). So if you need it for work, this will not work. Good things about the hotel: beds are comfortable and breakfast buffet was tasty.

Central Köln
Standard hotel with shared facilities close to the hauptbahnhof (checked in and in my room within 10 minutes of getting off the train) and therefore the area around the cathedral. In a quiet street. It was clean and tidy, though the stairwell looked a little dated.

Hotel room was small as expected. Bathroom was so small, to had to keep the door open just to brush your teeth and use the sink. No Elevator meant having to lug bags up multiple floors which is just not acceptable. I would not book this hotel again unless I was traveling with a backpack only.

Small room, great staff good location.
Our room was small, we knew that. The staff was awesome. Housekeeping had our room cleaned by the time we finished breakfast. Desk staff was super friendly and accommodating. The location was great for sightseeing and trains. We would stay again.

Small hotel, and I mean Small...
The hotel was really really small, there was just enough space for two people to live, not really much of anything else. The toilet was INCREDIBLY small that i had to move slowly just to get around and not bump into things. The staff were excellent and very nice, nothing wrong about them. The breakfast was also good and they made sure to give us what we need like coffee or hot chocolate. There was no elevator though, so bringing up luggages to the 2nd or 3rd floor was really hard. Well if youre looking for "a place to stay" that is cheap, this is just "ok".

Noisy Hotel and Unclean
Walls are very thin and couldn't sleep after 5.30am because of noise. Pillow was dirty and they forgot to change it but glad I noticed it. After putting the dirty pillow on the floor, the next day I got back to my room and they put it on top of the clean one. Bad staff wouldn't leave my luggage for an extended day and don't pay for the breakfast.

Worst bit was a bed - with mattress hard as a floor, bed was so squeaky so you'd tend to wake up every time you turn. Horrible! Cleaning ladies were very rude, to the point of being ridiculous :))) They clean well, but God forbid you are using shower after time they deem appropriate for shower (after 9am) or if you are overstayed 15min after check-out time - they would scream at you through the door! Hahaha! Other members of staff were actually very nice. Overall - never again but I guess I expected too much in the 1st place.

Hotel Bad
Hotel Berg is one of the cheapest hotels in the area but is just 5 minutes walk from Cologne main station. The hotel as a whole is extremely dated. I got one of the best rooms as i had a toilet in mine.The rooms are sparse and the beds are uncomfortable. A loud buzzer goes off at 11am to let you know to vacate the hotel. Pay the extra euros and stay somewhere else.

Close to the Cathedral
First up the location is about as close as you can get to the Dom so everything is within easy walking distance. The staff were excellent helpful, pleasant and a nothing is too much attitude. The hotel is listed as having parking but is extremely limited so if you are taking your car you will need to phone and arrange it. It is also an extra and will cost 10 Euros a day. The room was the biggest disappointment all appliances and sockets were on extension leads which hung down or trailed across the floor. The decor was tired and paper starting to peel from rhe walls, overall a run down appearance. The beds were substandard and very uncomfortable. There was also a patch of mould on the ceiling.

A hotel. Basic.
I was there for a conference, when all the hotels get booked up. I booked a room at the Berg, and it was cheap, so no doubting the value for money. Reception staff were perfectly friendly, and everywhere was clean. Towels were provided, small bar of soap, sachet of shampoo. Bed linen was all fine. Toilet/shower shared per landing, which wouldn't suit everyone. Location is handy for the station, and the only fault was in my room one of the single beds was fine, but the other had a mattress or frame problem so offered no support at all. I had a colleague share the room on one night - fortunately only one night. Can't fault the price, or location, but it's a tired, worn hotel, so keep your expectations low.

The weather was unbearably hot most of the time which affected some of my sightseeing. The location of the hotel was superb, so close to the central railway station. The room was fine but the bathroom extremely small. The staff were exceptionally friendly and appreciated my speaking in German!

Rudest hotel owner I"be ever met.
The owner became very rude to me most especially when I was so surprised that there was no lift. He said it was on the website. Anyway it was maybe my fault that I didn't double-check whether there was a lift or not. Usually people nowadays just check for wi-fi availability. I'm an elderly Asian lady and he made climb up 6 flights of stairs with my heavy luggage without even a courteous offer of help. . Is it because of my colour? I don't know. Whilst checking out, I was trying to suggest a way to warn guests who are traveling on their own to issue a bit of warning especially elder ones. But he told me to shut up and said he's not interested in whatever I want to say. I cannot believe Hotels.com is promoting this kind of treatment from a hotelier. I will not EVER go back to this hotel and I have 2nd thoughts now about Hotel.com's credibility Booking.com has never promoted a hotel like this one. It's my most regretful and unpleasant stay in a hotel so far. I've been in 18 countries and 2x as many cities too.

Terrible service by the owner. I ordered non smoking, and received smoking room for 4 nights. He said it is only when vacancy, but offered non smoking room with extra 70% to the amount I paid. Room small, dirty, smelly, towel is hard like a rock, TV is poor in quality and variety, no shampoo, poor shared shower. The only plus is the location, but there are many other hotels there. Pay more, but enjoy... I don't recommend this hotel, even if the price is tempting.

Sir, you only forgot to write, that you booked a single room with shared bathroom and the much more expensive room I offered you was a double room with shower/WC ensuite. And this room type is more expensive than the room type you booked. And the size of the rooms is noted at Expedia and the room you got is shown on one of the pictures at Expedia.

Disappointing!!!!
I arrived at the hotel at night. I didn't noticed on Expedia that the hotel didn't include taxes in the fee. So, I was unhappy about that. It was not the end of story. I opened the door of my room at the 3rd floor. It was like an oven hot. I opened the window to get rid of the hot temperature of the room, and I saw an emergency staircase to the window. I was worried all the night that somebody would enter the room from the staircase. Anyway, the bathroom and the toilet were combined in a single small room like 2x2 meters. It was not clean. It was old and dingy. I posted the Check-in feedback to Expedia, at night. In the morning, I checked out, where another guy was in the reception. He had read my feedback and condemned me. He yelled at me, and I was really scared. I would never send a negative feedback during my stay at a hotel. I will never never never get back to this hotel!!!! I have stayed at three hotels during my trip, I posted positive feedbacks for others. I say what I see. I don't lie. If somebody doesn't like my review, they can forget it, not yelling at me.

Sir, in these days the weather was extremly warm, so all rooms were hot. And if something is happening and there is no emergency stairs which you can reach from your room, you will complain about it too. And if you book a room with shared bathroom there might be other persons using the bathroom and leaving it dirty. Do you expect in a one star hotel a 24/7 housekeeping to clean the bathrooms on the floors? You better should have booked a romm with shower/WC ensuite. I yelled to you about your feedback? I only told you what I wrote as reply to your feedback, because you didn't read my reply as you told me, and the same I'm answering here and now. Where shall I send or post the video of the security cam to show me yelling to you? (The video is with sound.)

Awful Hotel
Beware, this Hotel was terrible! The rooms are very small, the bathrooms are smaller than airplane lavatories. The front desk person informed us that we are not allowed to leave the Hotel with our Keys, we must instead leave our keys at the front desk. This is totally unacceptable as our valuables were in the room and we felt we had no control as to who enters our room. Furthermore, the beds were springy and the staff rude.
I'm sorry, but the airplane lavatories I know are smaller then our bathrooms. And do you really thing, that the hotle staff can enter any room if it is needed? Even if the hotels do not use keys any more, but cards with magnetic stripe or RFID chip are master card existing, which allow the staff to enter the room (Or how the housekeeping is going to clean the room?). BTW, if you lock the rooms from inside the manager do have a card to unlock the room if it is needed.

I asked if I could have a later check out and the man said no, not possible. Ok. I was running a little behind and at 11:01 he was calling my room. I did not answer as I was packing my last items and was about to walk out. Then he comes to my door knocking. Very rude.
