DO NOT TRUST ANYONE AT THE HYATT IN GUATEMALA CITY
The front desk staff here is either incompetent or untrustworthy, or both, which in our case put us in a situation where we feared for our lives.
1. Upon our arrival, they tried to overcharge us for an 8-minute drive from the airport rather than the previously agreed amount (in writing) that was barely a tenth of what they now wanted.
2. They arranged a car and driver for us to Lake Atitlan (at double the price our local friends usually pay), but when the driver arrived, he admitted he had never actually driven to San Marcos. After a couple hours, about half way through the trip, he also admitted that due to his old age, he had trouble seeing at night — which was evident. We were so concerned that we’d die on the dark, windy roads that I asked him to pull over so I could drive the rest of the way. He was grateful.
To conclude, we expected that a hotel at the calibre of an international chain like the Hyatt, would be able to arrange safe, reliable, and reasonably priced transport considering we made the request 3 weeks in advance via phone and email. What we got, instead, was a dangerous and overpriced misadventure that we’ll hopefully laugh at, one day.
I would not recommend this hotel, and I will not stay here again.
