Love this hotel and its location. About a 10-15min walk from the station and 3-5min walk to the brick warehouses. Everything else is very walkable from there. The hotel and its room gives off vintage vibes, love it, very unique. Loved the onsen, lovely views and plenty of space to shower. Would come back here again!
The hotel is in a great location for getting around and visiting all the attractions Hakodate has to offer. The lobby is open and welcoming, and the staff are wonderful. There is even a free coffee machine, and the matcha latte it makes is delicious and addictive.
The onsen bath was perfect and offers a great view from the top floor! They also provide free ice pops and cream sticks near the entrance to the men’s and women’s onsen. As others have mentioned, the breakfast is excellent.
My only complaint is the room. While not bad, the Double Room with a King bed felt run down and very “well used.” It was clean and tidy, but it has certainly seen better days. That said, I can overlook this because everything else about the hotel was fantastic.
As for restaurants and dining options, right outside the main entrance there is a cluster of eateries offering a great variety of food, and they are not affiliated with the hotel.
The rooftop onsen was an experience. I did not eat at the hotel restaurant, choosing instead the many nearby restaurants for a more unique experience.
The location overlooks the harbor and is an easy 10 min walk from the train station.
Love the views from the room, onsen, resting area with the sense of glamorous old school Japanese style. Well thoughts for stayer with great hotel’s massage with reasonable price, country side vibe onsen, free ramen from 10pm (unsure if applies to all). I am not going to think of other stays in Hakodate, but here!

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service, amenities
Disliked: Property conditions & facilities
I feel that the view from the high floors of the hotel is nice, but the lighting in the hotel is very dim, as is the room. The beds and cabinets need renovation.
The location of the hotel is great. Close to the old brick warehouse shopping mall and within walking distance to the tram to the Hakodate mountain for night view. The room is tiny (probably because I reserved the cheapest room). The breakfast is okay but the smell is too fishy for my taste. The staffs are courteous and helpful. Overall a great stay. Just remember to book a bigger room.
Quiet , plenty of parking (easy access as well)
Breakfast is awesome.
The only problem is the room is a bit too hot for me and I have to open a little windows (yes I know it is <5C outside)
One more thing , the shower seems dripping water despite I have never use it (The top floor onsen have grant bath) Maybe the hotel can fix it before the next guest use (It is wasting water)
The room was beautifully designed and had a Kalita too! You could grind the coffee beans they provided and make a hot mug of coffee while staying inside the room. The staff were really friendly and kind and the hotel breakfast was nothing short of amazing. It's a 15min walk to the station or you could take a bus/streetcar there too.
There's so much to see within walking distance and lots of food options nearby. Would definitely be back to stay here again!
Room was great, onsen is great. But kind of far from station (walked there, but seems like there’s a bus. not sure taxi cost how much since there’s many of us so we chose to walk) but there’s a complimentary taxi to station per room! welcome drink is also very nice! will stay again next time!
Hakadote is different from everywhere else we visited in Japan. The hotel is on the waterfront, near to shops and restaurants.
While in Japan we’ve stayed at many Dormy hotels. All Dormy hotels have onsen. This hotel is part of their premium series, The style of the rooms is vintage, Our room included a lovely old-style coffee grinder, fresh beans and heritage China.
The buffet breakfast at the hotel is extraordinary.
Five stars.
This property is in need to better upkeep. My room had a lot of worn wood but the most irritating part of my late May stay was that the air conditioning on both the floor and within my room was turned off and they said they would not turn it on "until summer." That meant I had to open the window to cool the room. Given that Japan is bright by 5 AM in May, the combination of a warm room and an open window made sleeping difficult. The spa was wonderful, and this is of course why people choose this hotel but I will go elsewhere the next time I am in Hakodate.
First the brunch was everything that was advertised. The food was varied and very good. Ate there two days and the items changed both days. I would give the brunch 5 stars. But the room. First walk in and the slippers were almost falling apart. Then the room was dusty. Whenever you moved something on the table, a large dustmark was left. The mattress had a large stain, which unfortuately I didn't notice until the last morning. There were no towels for the shower only the onsen.
Wonderful inhouse rooftop baths open 1500pm-1000am. Several lovely restaurants. Excellent breakfast buffet so you can skip lunch. Free ramen 2200-2330. Convenient location next to brick warehouses. Airport teisan bus stop is 1 min away. Walk uphill to cable car in 15-20 mins. Big bed but not much room for suitcases. Air conditioner not working it seems. Discovered room humidifier on last night of 4 n that helped a lot. Would recommend hotel give more info in English. Another towel would also be helpful. Great views of the entire area, esp mount hakodate. Elevator a bit slow at times. Friendly staff. A little expensive but highly recommend since will probably not visit again. Well worth the visit.
We stayed her after we left the Kokusai. La Vista was a far superior hotel. The location was very convenient to the train station and the staff was very helpful. They offered tea and coffee in the lobby and tea and coffee in the room. Unique to be able to freshly grind your coffee beans and drip pour in your room! The onsen was really beautiful and relaxing. They were open all night long! It was a fun experience to see all the guests in their pajamas walking around the hallways in the middle of the night. They had an outside onsen for both women and men (Kokusai down the street only had an outdoor onsen for the men!). I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Hakodate for a memorable stay. The one thing to mention was that the breakfast did not open early enough for us to eat before we left for our train at 6:30am, so we missed that. We were glad they had a special coffee and tea in the rooms so we could enjoy that instead. Definitely recommend you waking up early to watch the sunrise as you sit outside in their onsen on the roof.
The location is great, right next to the red brick warehouse to shop, restaurants are nearby as well. Our room was pretty spacious and the bed was huge! if you stay here, you must get the breakfast buffet! staff were very professional and polite! great customer service!
