Try the Lemongrass for dinner. It's a limited menu but wonderfully prepared. Also, if you like old trains, they have an excursion train that travels between Hilly City and Keystone. Found out too late to try it ourselves.

Out of the towns around this area, Hill City was favorite and were glad this is where we stayed. We ate out 3 different times and all 3 places had great service and food. Shops and dining were also in walking distance.

Great restaurants and cute little shops, but not too much. It was a little busy when we were there, but not terrible. Much better than Custer.

Interesting shops, decent restaurants. Several businesses were closed for the season, which is to be expected. We were looking forward to dinner at the 1885 Steakhouse but when we arrived, a sign on the door stated it was closed for a private party.

"I have had bad experiences at a couple Comfort Inn stays, so I was a little leery, but booked after reading the reviews. And we were not disappointed. Hotel felt clean and well kept up and a great central location. We were also pleasantly surprised with the town of Hill City. We were visiting Mt Rushmore for the first time and just looking for a comfortable stay but fell in love with the area. Also the front desk lady who checked us in gave us a wonderful recommendation for a sweets shop downtown , and it did not disappoint! "
"Hotel is clean. But the Hide a bed is really uncomfortable. I’d go for double queen beds instead of the hide a bed if I were you. Also, disappointing that there is no easy way to call the hotel directly. You get sent through a call service and the person on the phone isn’t even in the state. No phone in the room to call out. "
