Spend a day soaking up the sun in peace on Phuket’s hidden gem.
With its laid-back, bohemian vibe, Kata is a real contender for the title of Phuket’s best beach resort. For even more tranquillity, head just 800 metres south of Kata to Kata Noi. Situated at a distance from the hustle and bustle of Kata’s bars, restaurants and hotels, Kata Noi – or Kata small – draws fewer crowds, but is still well equipped with all that you need for a blissful beach day.
In place of the vibrant bars and nightclubs that line some of Phuket’s other beaches, simple shacks offering luxurious massages and relaxing treatments cosy up to Kata Noi Beach’s sandy edges. Restaurants and buffets offer delicious Thai cuisine, and snacks and drinks can be purchased from sun lounger vendors.
In the wet season between May and October, the swell attracts surfers. Throughout the rest of the year the waters are generally calm, offering calm clear waters for swimming or snorkelling. The best coral and marine life can be found at the south end of the beach - walk barefoot along the white sand to pick your ideal spot. The beach itself is only 800 metres long.
For a different perspective, take the short trip from Kata Noi to Kata Viewpoint. A five-minute tuk tuk or taxi ride along the winding road towards Nai Harn will be rewarded with breath-taking views across the three bays of Kata Noi, Kata and Karon. To combine the food with world-renowned cuisine and excellent wine, dine at Mom Tri’s Kitchen. Be sure to make a reservation, as it’s a hugely popular option, and while you’re there, enquire about the cooking classes they have on offer.
Kata Noi is a fantastic day trip option, sitting just 19 kilometres outside of Phuket Town. Visitors that find it difficult to tear themselves away could enquire at one of the luxury hotels or resorts. Katathani Phuket Beach Resort is the largest, with excellent dining options and a prestigious feel.
