I am really impressed with this hotel. It is only 10-15 minutes walk away from the train station. I was able to check in early due to my train journey from Helsinki arriving at 09.45. So I did not have to wait around until 14.00. I would stay here again.

Fantastic, central location, easy walking distance to everything in a small town. Nice complimentary breakfast. The hotel is old, the public rooms are pleasant but the individual rooms could use updating. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Would consider staying there again. Monet kiitokset!

Older hotel with lots of character, Very clean
My husband and I went on a small trip just to get away. I’ve never heard of the hotel before but it looked interesting and we chose it to be where we would stay. Was totally positive experience, hotel is older but very clean. We’ve stayed at newer hotels that had an awful smell in the lobby and in the halls this hotel smelled nothing. No bad aroma no hints of old. Breakfast was good Good not as much geared towards American travelers but still good. In the bar We got to hear pretty good band playing, they also had open mic between band songs and some of the open performers were amazing singers and musicians. Highly recommend this hotel great location, great service, very clean, overall very positive

Historical hotel where I stayed first time. I liked the place but it weared and teared. That didn't bother me but it if you like that everything is perfect then you should consider some other hotel.

Lovely staff, the room was cute and embraced the Art Deco feel. Had it’s own sauna which was great. Nice and cosy after walking around town. Best place to stay if touring with sea Lapland safari.

A Wonderful Grant Hotel
Stunning Art Deco Hotel, central to transport, walking distance to the sea, close to amenities. It you appreciate historical architecture you will love this hotel. The staff were helpful and friendly and the breakfast was not only delicious and a wonderful variety, it was served in the Grand Ballroom which was an amazing room to enjoy.

Nostalgic or old-fashioned - your choice!
The hotel is a time-warp place - back 50 years in style, decor, rooms, building! It is a matter of taste if you like it or not. The place certainly needs an upgrade, but it will be difficult to change the rooms. They are small, especially the bathroom is dismally tiny.

Interesting Older Hotel
This is an older hotel in Kemi Finland. It has something of a '50's feel to it. That is not a negative comment, it is very well maintained, and the people on the staff were friendly and professional. It was clean and the free breakfast was excellent. I noticed that the local policemen also stop in for breakfast sometimes. The price for a night was fair, and I would stay there again if I was in the area.

Old fashsion hotel, but I like it
It is a very old fashion hotel with long long history. However, the service provided was out of my expentation. The staff are nice, the room provide everything you need, and the food of restaurant is also nice. Highly recommend for everyone who need to stay in Kemi

Overall a decent choice. Nice staff and restaurant
To be fair, I don't believe there were a lot of options in this small town. The main attraction was the Ice Castle. If you aren't going to stay there for the novelty of it, overall this hotel was nice enough and the staff were really lovely. It was convienient for a one night stay and only about 10-15 minute walk from the Ice Castle. Another plus was that some of the tours had a standard pickup from here as well. As most of the hotels in the town, they were just older and few amenities.

Read the Fine Print
Should have made arrangements with the property for the access code at the time of booking as I could not rouse anyone using the keypad on the outside. Ended up going to another hotel and have them contact the hotel so I could get in. A bit odd not to have staff at least into early hours of the evening to manage check-ins.

Great breakfast and friendly reception staff.
This is a traditional Finnish old hotel and your room will have old style furniture. That said, the beds were comfortable, bathroom shower great. Great hot or cold breakfast each morning with proper strong coffee. Worth staying of you like a trip back into the past and for the central location. Receptionist was lovely, efficient and friendly - superb!

The Oldest Hotel in Kemi
This hotel has a lot of character and charm. I stayed there while traveling on vacation March 18 - March 22, 2014. The front desk was very helpful and always answered all my question with a smile, no matter how many I asked. The breakfast was served on the 3rd floor and they offered a lot of cold and hot items to choose from as well as fresh cut fruit. My room on the 4th floor, 426 I think, was large and warm with facilities to make coffee or tea as well as a mini bar. Plenty of free TV channels in English as well as pay channels. Everything is very close as the city is small so you won't get lost walking about. There is a supermarket right across the street as well as a Subway. Since I don't travel with anything I don't want to lose, there is a laptop in the restaurant near the front desk that is free to use. I was leaving very early in the AM so a cab was booked for men, for the 10 minute ride to the airport, the night before and I was offered either a breakfast to take away or a cold breakfast to eat in the bar. I will stay at the Hotel Merihovi again, the next time I visit Kemi.

Pick up this hotel on the way from Turku to Alta in Norway, reached really late, and left early morning. it is ok hotel to stay for a night. no good no bad.

Prime location
It was really close to the Kemi Snow Castle which is the reason why we went there. So this place was perfect for that as it was only a 5 minute walk away.

Great hotel near everything
While the hotel is a bit old, it is well maintained, has friendly staff and is right in the middle of town, just 10 minutes walk from the station, 5 min from cafes / restaurants and about 10 min from the harbour area. The better rooms have a sauna in them and the restaurant within the hotel is very good and reasonably priced. In winter make sure you check out the ice hotel and the Sampo ice breaker cruise.

Overnight - Good service dated decor
One thing I will say first is the staff were excellent in helping with enquiries before our arrival, communicating with our transport when our flight was delayed, and when we arrived about the area. Decor seemed dated. To enter bathroom you needed to step up in to it. The tiles in the bathroom seemed in good condition but the paint was peeling on the last 10cm of the door trimmings. There was a foaming soap dispenser at the bathroom basin and in the shower. The shower had no light fixture and was a little dim. The design required you to see from the celing light (situated over the toilet and basin) that would try to pass through the shower curtain. Breakfast had a good array of food compared to other hotels we stayed at in Finland (stayed at Arctic SnowHotel and Glass Igloo Hotel in Finland also). The chairs at the breakfast hall seemed a little worn with varnished wood chipped or wearing. They could consider chair covers to give a better look. Question is: would I stay here again if I were to go back to Kemi for just one night? I would probably see how Hotel Cumulus Kemi goes but this hotel would be my second choice as there isn't too many options.

Excellent service, but hotel to be renovated
The hotel is a good location at less than 10 minutes walking from the train station. It is also very close to same supermarket. The staff is extremely kind. We arrived with the train at 06:27AM from Helsinki and at 06:50 AM we already got the room without extra charging, 7 hours before the normal check in time. And before to go to the room we were also offered of a breakfast without extra recharging too. It's also good the fact to have a pub in the ground floor of the hotel (not noisy at all). Pity that the rooms really need some renovation in the furniture (old) and also the cleaness could be improved. But in general we would go back in Merihovi hotel for a reasonable price. PS: the hotel is a good base for eventual excursion with icebreaker Sampo.

This hotel is older but I loved the overall decor. They haven't tried to make the hotel look new but brought out the older features. The room was a good size, there was coffee making facilities in the room and free WiFi. We had a hire car and the parking at the front of the hotel was free.

The hotel is rather old, a bit decadent, maybe, but it has a personality that lacks in those big chain hotels. And the staff was very friendly and kind.
