The Ngong Ping 360 cable car travels over Lantau Island and is a great way to take in the area’s many interesting views.
Moving between the north coast and the hilly area of Ngong Ping, the island is home to several tourist attractions. At Ngong Ping, you’ll find the famous Big Buddha and Po Lin Monastery, which have long been two of the city’s top tourist attractions.From Tung Chung, the cable car crosses Tung Chung Bay and moves towards peaceful North Lantau. For breath-taking views, take the Ngong Ping 360 on a clear day. You’ll see the beautiful hills of North Lantau Country Park and the endless South China Sea stretching out below. The Crystal Cabin is another option. Although a little pricier, this glass-bottomed cable car offers unobstructed views of the lush green hills below. Bear in mind that both the Ngong Ping 360 and the Crystal Cabin are popular and you may have to queue for several hours during busy periods. It’s a good idea to book a ticket online in advance. Before you arrive in Ngong Ping, you will pass the airport and the Tian Tan Buddha, eventually enjoying the amazing panoramic view of the Ngong Ping Plateau below. As you leave the cable car, you will see Ngong Ping Village, a large retail complex.The excellent Walking with Buddha exhibition takes you on the life journey of Siddhartha Gautama, the Indian prince who eventually came to be known as the Buddha. The Monkey’s Tale Theatre is perfect for children, and shows animated stories. Depending on which cable car ticket you have, admission to these attractions may be free. It’s a good idea to check the official website for the different options available. You can walk to the impressive Big Buddha and famous Po Lin Monastery from the village. For a perfect end to the day, take the cable car back to Tung Chung at sunset, and don’t forget your camera! To get to the cable car terminal take the metro to Tung Chung MTR, take Exit B and walk the rest of the way.
