The hotel was good but it was near a bar/restaurant area. The area is over all safe but if you were a single lady heading back at late night, just take necessary precaution.
Overall, the stay at the hotel was very good. Many attractions and destinations were within walking distance, which made the experience even more enjoyable. The room was very spacious and offered plenty of space, which we really appreciated.
However, the cleanliness could have been better — there was quite a bit of dust under the bed and on the ceiling. This is an area that could use some improvement.

We didn’t get towel everyday and the underbed was really dirty. The staff was kind and the location is great though !
Good sized clean rooms with traditional bathroom setup. Quiet area still within walking distance of good food options.

The front desk had limited English but were friendly and helpful. I didn’t know before I booked that this property doubles as a brothel and it’s clear that they put there effort into looking after that instead of cleaning the rooms. There was still clothes under the bed from the previous guest.
Unfortunately, this hotel was not very comfortable to stay in for a few days. Despite looking fairly nice online, there were visible stains on the curtains and walls, our room was not cleaned during our stay, and the area is not what I would consider to be ideal. Nevertheless, it’s a cheap hotel and that comes with obvious sacrifices, I would recommend spending a tad bit more if possible.
Party of three adults, stayed for 2 nights in June. Hotel is an easy walk to Japan Rail and local subway stations. The neighborhood offers plenty of restaurant alternatives on the street or at the train station. Room was very nice and offered enough space for 3 adults with backpacks. Osaka is a great base for a day trip to Nara.
It is almost 1 km away from the station so be prepared to walk! The hotel is more dated than the pics. It rained so I wish I choose a hotel closer to the train.
Tiny hotel but clean and value for money. Location is around 15mins walk from metro. Only one thing that it’s quit difficult to find a cafe before 11am nearby. You have go to the metro station before that time.

The photos make the hotel appear much more updated and welcoming than in reality! The location is in a backstreet, making it rather hard to find, and is not convenient to a subway station (at least 10 minute walk to the closest station, which, with luggage, is not ideal). The property itself has a similar feel to a motel, and our room had a view overlooking a cemetery (which was clearly not included in the property description). We had just come from Kyoto where we stayed in a hotel that had the same 3-star rating as Sonezaki, but that property was amazing - clean, modern, comfortable, safe, convenient and cost less. I would not recommend anyone to stay in Sonezaki unless you have no other options.
Brand new hotel, forgot to tell us about breakfast
The hotel is a good 20 mins walk from Osaka JR station (not Shin-Osaka where the Shinkansen stop!) through long underground shopping malls and a small walk in a commercial area. Google Maps is your friend here.
The hotel is brand new. Not clear whether it is a converted apartment building.
At check-in we were not told anything about breakfast - we though the service was not available. At the last days we discovered that there is a room for breakfast at the 2nd floor, but it is not mentioned anywhere in the room documentation. Not that that is a problem, since breakfasts in Japan hotels are typically nothing remarkable and we walked each day to a bakery close by.
The room was really big, with personally controlled AC (a welcome exception during our trip in Japan!) and it was spotless clean and new.
The reception staff at check in didn't speak much English, but it was enough to get things done.
Very good wifi.
