Known for its laid-back but quality seafood restaurants, Sai Kung Town is also a great base for trips to the beach and hiking trails in the hills.
With its location in the Sai Kung Peninsula, it takes about two hours to get to Sai Kung Town by public transport. If you can, try and make a weekend of it and take your time to really kick back and relax in this peaceful area. With its stunning backdrop of the hills of Ma On Shan Country Park, the town has managed to hang onto its charm and history. The quaint harbour is where fishing boats moor to sell the day’s catch to locals and visitors and the old town in the south is filled with good shops, cafés and restaurants. Sai Kung is perfect for nature lovers, and is the starting point for several hiking trails through the hills. Outside the town, there are a few traditional temples worth a visit, including the Hung Shing Temple at Kau Sai Chau.Another good reason to visit Sai Kung is to dine in one of the many open-air seafood restaurants. This small island is home to the famous Jockey Club Public Golf Course, which opens its three different 18-hole courses to the public. The island can be reached by ferry from the harbour. Explore further afield by heading to one of more than 70 nearby small islands. Some of the more visited islands operate a regular ferry service, while others run on a demand-only basis, so it’s a good idea to check schedules in advance to avoid disappointment. The best way to get to Sai Kung Town is by minibus from one of the MTR stations. You can take the minibus route 1A from Choi Hung MTR, or the minibus route 101 from the Hang Hau MTR station.
