A tiny hamlet set on the banks of the Tresillian River offers peace, tranquility and country charm as well as ancient structures and picturesque walking routes to explore.

It’s just minutes away from Cornwall’s capital city TruroOpens in a new window, but St. Clement has managed to retain an old-world feel and a quiet charm. Enjoy leisurely strolls along the idyllic riverbank and admire the quaint thatched cottages and stone church.

St. Clement lies within the Cornwall Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and offers access to several scenic walking trails. Pack a picnic and set off along the Tresillian River Walk, stopping for lunch along the wooded banks. Look for bird species including oystercatchers, kingfishers and little egrets.

Seek out St. Clement Church, located not far from the water’s edge. Of particular note is the church’s 14th-century bell tower, which contains six bells, three of which are medieval. Listen for the sound of the bells ringing across the village. Stroll around the surrounding churchyard and examine the intricate inscriptions on the headstones.

Head to nearby Truro for even more attractions. Visit the three-spired Truro Cathedral, around which the town is built, and browse the collections of the Royal Cornwall Museum. The eclectic displays here feature everything from historical items and geological specimens to artworks by artistic greats such as Turner and Van Dyck.

Just a 15-minute drive south of St. Clement, or a ferry ride from Truro, lies the National Trust-owned Trelissick Garden. Wander through the historic gardens and survey colourful blooms and unusual plant species. Beyond the gardens is a sweep of lush parkland that is perfect for walking.

From St. Clement it’s just a 30-minute journey by car to one of Cornwall’s most stunning under-the-radar beauty areas: the Roseland Heritage Coast. Trek along part of the South West Coast Path and discover why this area has been such a source of inspiration for painters and photographers. Look for beautiful stretches of beach, such as Gerrans Bay, along the way.

St. Clement is on the eastern edge of Truro. The nearest train station is in Truro. Use St. Clement as your base and rent a car to venture to other towns and villages along the coast.

"Very polite staff but the property is very tired and not well maintained with 1 room not having any soap and beds be stored in the open at the stairwell.
