Confidently one of the best ryokan in Kyushu!
I have stayed in many decent ryokans in Japan, but Kyutei managed to exceed expectations in all aspects.

Best to include half-board (Dinner Breakfast) as you need to drive out to find restaurants (and most will close by 5 or 6 pm) and quite a distance away
Need to pre-order the breakfast and breakfast, as last minute request is not acceded.
We have an excellent breakfast offered.
We find the dinner menu (as shared by the host) has an excellent spread.

It was a really nice stay. It’s a wooden cabin in the hills. Somewhat rustic, laid back. The place is clean and very lovely to stay. Sleeping in the attic was interesting. Had wonderful time using the outdoor grill and also hotpot. Nice indoor private Onsen. The outdoor public onsen is pretty and relaxing to be in. The lady that serves us is friendly and cheerful. I love it.

The room assigned to us was really good with an attached outdoor onsen and bath. Room was a little small and the futon wasn't as comfortable as what we were accustomed to in Japan. Being in the mountains we had 2 uninvited critters in our room. One was some flying insect and the other was a centipede which really freaked us out. It actually found it's way into our toiletry bag and lucky we spotted it before we stuck our hand in. The onsen in our room was good and clean. However the public onsen...

Very clean and well-maintained, the villa is spacious and faces east so you get a sunrise view from the living area. Make sure you reach before sundown because the road in is winding and treacherous. Best to familiarise yourself on your first drive at peast.
