The property was absolutely wonderful. We had the best host. The traditional, hot spring baths were wonderful That is a traditional Japanese hotel a very comfortable and welcoming, and it made for fantastic memories
Amazingly friendly staff. They went out of their way to arrange vegetarian breakfast and dinner for my wife on a short notice.
Private onsen after a long day was great.
Dinner on both nights had different menu. It was one of the best sushi I ever had.
Overall it was a great experience for us!!
Great dinner and excellent breakfast (both at pre-scheduled times). One hour reservation for private use of onsen in the evening and unrestricted gender specific communal use of onsen in the morning.
My experience was second to none. The breakfast and dinner service were spectacular. The chefs were real masters of their art.
The accommodation and services were amazing. I was treated exceptionally well as a guest at the property. The private onsen is a must-do experience.
If I could good a higher rating I would. I will always remember my experience here.
We had an amazing stay here. The staff is incredible. The rooms are clean and comfortable with everything you need. The onsen is relaxing and beautiful. The food is amazing. We loved every bit of it.
An amazing place! Impeccable service, fabulous food and the whole place was spotless. It was so peaceful and quiet - a wonderful place to recharge. Such helpful and friendly staff. We were blown away by the whole experience and highly recommend this hotel for a stay and to enjoy master chef Ishida's culinary skills. It's great that you can book the hot spring bath for private use.
Wow, what a great place!
We are very Happy that we found this ryokan, where we stayed for 2 nights. The staff is super friendly and helpful. We were amazed by the Excellent Dinner and breakfast menues, which are prepared live by the Chef. Also nice onsen in the facility which you can book all for yourself.
So far the Highlight of our Japan vacation.
Would definitely recommend this place!

Great service. Arrived outside of check in hours, but was still recieved due to communication with host. They prepared dinner for me as well which was fantastic. The hosts have very good English as well.
We stayed here for 2 nights and it was genuinely such an amazing experience, we’re so glad we found this place on our Japan trip. It’s very quiet with not a lot of guests so it’s really tranquil… the food was stupendous and really fresh- the restaurant is a small 8 counter seater and the chef prepares dishes in front of you. The onsen was wonderful and all of the staff were lovely and very welcoming. I would not hesitate to recommend staying here for a relaxing and unique experience!
This place is Amazing! It's a little hard to get to but it's so worth it. The onsen was so much much. They have private reservations that you can bath in private. The room was clean and cozy. Very Japanese traditional setting. The staff was so nice and helpful. The best part was the food. We are a group of foodies from NYC. And we were absolutely impressed with the food. Hands down one ofvthe best! This place is a gem in the mountain. We can't wait to go back.
I had an incredible stay at Gora Soryu hotel in Hakone! The facilities were absolutely beautiful, and the accommodations were incredibly comfortable. The highlight of our visit was the relaxing private onsen, which provided a serene and rejuvenating experience.
The authentic cuisine at the hotel was a gastronomic delight. Every meal was a journey through the flavors of Japan, and it left us craving for more. The attention to detail and the use of fresh ingredients truly impressed us.
Moreover, the manager, Ryo Ueno, went above and beyond to make our stay memorable. He was exceptionally helpful and hospitable, assisting us with everything we needed. He even helped us with arrangements to get to our next destination, which was greatly appreciated.
I can’t recommend Gora Soryu hotel enough. If you’re looking for a luxurious and authentic experience in Hakone, this is the place to be. We left with wonderful memories and a desire to return in the future.
We absolutely loved our stay here! We stayed in the Japanese room that came with 2 meals per person and a private onsen reservation. The room itself is very traditional with folding futon and sheets that you set up once you're there. A yukata was also provided per person as well as towels, extra layers, sheets, and tea. The wifi worked well. As other reviews noted, the room only has a private bathroom ie. sink and toilet, but you can take a shower/bath in the onsens, either during the public hours (there are two which are separated by gender during those hours) or during your private reservation (which you make upon arrival). There are hourly time slots for the reservation for the two onsens so there should be plenty of times available to you once you check in.
Dinner also came with our reservation and was scheduled for 6pm. It was really delicious! We stayed on a Monday night and essentially had a private dinner to ourselves since there weren't other guests. Impeccable service and every dish was well explained. The breakfast was similarly excellent and definitely really filling. We loved both!
Finally, the proprietor and chef were both very kind and hospitable. We could not have asked for a better ryokean experience and would definitely recommend!
This is a great place for quiet. The onsen was wonderful. The food was new experiences. The staff including the chef were friendly and helpful. The room was charming (view so-so). Lovely base to see Mt Fuji. Loved the open air museum, museum of art and museum of photography.
BUT - "private detached bathroom" actually only means an en suite toilet and sink. No shower or bath. For that you have to go one floor down to the public onsen (which is reservable only from 3 pm, so if you want a private shower before that, or, after you just have to be lucky that no one else is using it.
BUT the staff spoke practically no English and we no Japanese. Nor did they seem able to use a translation programme (like Google Translate - we made communications which they read, they responded in fast Japanese)
BUT if you have disability issues, transport is HARD in Hakone (no taxis/ubers etc available before 10 am in the morning at all!). The day we left however, one of the chefs was kind enough to give the three of us a lift to the bus stop (two large and two small suitcases and mother in wheelchair). Hakone is also very steep gradients
The staff were incredibly friendly, spoke English, and explained everything about staying in a ryokan. The room was beautiful and spotless. The food was impeccable. The baths were clean and stocked with products. I truly couldn't recommend this ryokan more. It's a hidden gem. Pro tip: do NOT walk there. The hill is killer - take the cable car.
