"Our trip to the Big Island was a last minute switch from Kauai due to storms. It was our first time on Hawaii Island, and we hadn't done any research in advance. The Mauna Lani turned out to be a perfect basecamp from which to explore the island's volcanos, beaches, oceans, tidepools, and history. It was luxurious without being fussy. The staff were almost without exception were warm and helpful. Our room had a beachfront view that was gorgeous, and a large lanai from which to enjoy it. I'm not sure if it was because the hotel was not at full capacity, but our room was very quiet, and our every need was met instantly upon request. We had so much fun!"

"This property was the favorite lodging of the trip. Amazingly, it was not full. It is within 100 yards of Hawiโ€™s main attraction, Kohala Zipline. The main building forms a square around a lawn-dominated garden: A vintage roadside motel combined with a cloister. Good dining choices are within a short walking or a slightly longer driving distance. Nearby sights/sites of interest include Pololu Beach and two churches in a New England style, both of which look great in the tropical setting."
