This was a crash pad between a day at a beer festival in Nozawa onsen and a day at Jigokudani, and it's perfect for this. 1-2 min walk from station, easy to get in, easy to get out, near places to get dinner. Room was small, but almost all Japanese hotels are like this, just learn to manage your stuff and get on with it (I see so many whinges about this and they say more about the traveller than the hotel). Check-in and out was easy, everything I needed was there, and it was well priced. The room got a bit warm without the aircon on (I try to avoid using them to save our kids' future), but that's a minor gripe, the hotel has to withstand serious winter, so being a touch warm in early fall is not a terrible thing.
