I would have liked to have seen some kind of map of the property and information explaining what was available. The property is not huge but neither is it a boutique hotel so I got lost a few times. I also booked a suite and would have liked to have had dish soap, dish towels and cloths and coffee in the room. It's hard to swim in the ocean but that's to be expected along this stretch of the beach. The food was pretty good. Location is good. An older hotel but I would stay here again.

Very dated property, food terrible, no service at the beach and the palapas (umbrellas) way too low that you can barely see around the beach. Room, bed and pillows smell awful that I have to update the room which ruins my budget. We won’t return to this hotel, worst experience in many times in Vallarta.

The good We really enjoyed the staff and the hotel itself. The bad. Not a lot of food options for non Mexican dishes and we had zero hot water in our suite. We talked to numerous staff and they said that there was nothing they could do. We also had to ask 3 of our 7 days to have our mini bar restocked. I know these seem like minor issues but we spend a lot of money to not have a hot shower for a week.

The first room I got had dead cockroaches around the fridge, and was dark and dingy with no balcony and broken floor tiles everywhere. The room espresso the bathroom could use some major upgrades. The second room was only slightly better but had no fridge. I was told “some rooms have no fridge” After arguing with front desk I was told one will be brought right away. It didn’t come until the next evening after several calls to front desk. The service at the restaurants and pool bars was fantastic!!! The food was edible but definitely not great. Again the servers were amazing.

Probably the best option for all inclusive hotel at a great price! This resort has a good location, yes it may appear older as mentioned in other reviews however, it is very clean and honestly has all you need. The pools are nice as is the mini water park. The buffet is average, but the specialty restaurants are great, the staff at the Mexican restaurant were superb. I've been here on three occasions and the staff is always great. But the person who always stands out to me is Pedro at the pool who kindly made sure we had food and drinks at all times, also providing us shade and tables when possible, those details win us over! I can wait to go back to this resort!

My husband and I stayed for two weeks. We booked a "mountain view" room which ended up being in Canto's sister building Villas Vallarta. We didn't mind being in the Villas at all. It was quieter than the busy Canto building. They have a nice small pool that is never busy. Good for adults, but kids may find it boring. We booked a standard room that put us in the back of the building with no balcony and only a small view of mountains and a big view of an ugly alley. By day two we could see some rooms above the Villas pool seemed to be empty, so we paid to upgrade to a room over looking the Villas pool and with a peek at the ocean. Be sure to negotiate at the front desk if you choose to change to a better room. The new room had a balcony with a little kitchen area. We didn't use the kitchen much, but the microwave was handy to warm up our morning coffees and the fridge was good for keeping our water bottles cold. We were there in April, so it wasn't crazy busy. It was pretty easy to book the restaurants and I would highly recommend eating at all of them! We enjoyed all four of them, I can't pick a favorite. A little secret for a peaceful stress free breakfast would be to eat at the Mexican restaurant located at Villas Vallarta. They offer a scaled down version of the buffet breakfast with no crowd. The Ceviche restaurant is excellent and they have ice cream! The staff all work hard, don't forget to tip them!

Overall good value for the $$ . You get what you pay for . The main pool area is gorgeous-clean and you cannot ask for more. Bring your own Yeti if you want to drink in the pool as cups are not allowed. Plenty of chairs and nice entertainment. Beautiful surroundings-I once saw dolphins swimming early in the morning . The resort is close to Melacon if you willing to walk for 20-30 min. Overall nice location. I just wish we were able to eat more in the restaurants not just 3 nights -thought all inclusive meant that. Buffet is lucking options for vegetarians. Pasta night was good:) My only complain would be room itself.Although it was cleaned everyday -the bathroom reeked! I don’t know if that’s every room issue but definitely affected our stay there.

Someone went in our room twice when we were at a booked dinner. Dumped our bags out on beds, went through our stuff! Like they get you to book a dinner so they know where you are, so they can go through your room. Made me feel extremely unsafe. Hard to find someone who speaks English. Same food every day, always really cold. Pool was dirty. Activities were slim and boring. Hotel needs major upgrades. Air conditioning was blowing warm. Tv stopped working on first night, took 2 days to get a new one. Phone didn’t work in the room, that never got fixed. We wanted to go home on day 2. Waste of money for sure

I couldn't wait to write a positive review for this place after seeing all the negative. Do not let the negative reviews scare you off at all. My family and I went with our three year old and 5 month old and had a fantastic time. The food was amazing, the rooms did not smell of mold and the hotel itself is beautiful and in a great location. I would recommend this hotel to anyone and am very happy we stayed here.

Canto is aging but the staff is amazing. Taken care of from morning till evening - room in Mountain section was good, steps away from the pool. This pool is quiet, has bar service and is right beside the Cervichia, which is a fantastic place to grab a snack. Also a second area for breakfast buffet - main pool is where the action is if that’s what you like - buffet for breakfast were good, Mainly due to the fact omelettes as are made to order - snack are around bar was just ok - can’t comment on buffet for dinner as only used once. Lunches were good, especially bbq Tuesday. - a La cartes - good variety and portions were very good. Again the service is the reason I would return to Canto, the staff are incredible.

We will not be returning to this resort. We had separate rooms booked which were located in a great area, they were just poorly maintained. Door knobs falling off, dirty floors, broken pull out sofa beds, a piece of the patio door to help hold it shut even fell off. Constantly they would turn off the hot water / completely turn it off without giving guests a heads up. Hammering in empty rooms next to you for days (also without telling you) which isn’t ideal if you are travelling with littles who need to nap during the day. We had about 60 flying bugs come into our room one night (it looked like they were coming through the lights). The restaurants that you need to book to eat at were great and the buffet was always a hit or a miss. The snack bar during the lunch definitely needs a change from day to day. The beach area in front of the ocean is not great at all. The hotel is in a great location for walking to grocery stores. This resort needs a complete makeover and the rooms need to be updated and fixed up. Even the ocean front rooms hot tubs don’t work or have hot water in the rooms. The one good thing about this hotel is the amazing friendly and helpful staff that they have.

I was annoyed with the service right from the start. We tried checking in at 2:30 but our room wasn’t available until 3:15 so we had to sit and wait. We were not allowed to use the pool as we did t have our wristbands yet and even though we would be booked in that day. Then finally, 3:15, we get our room. The room looked great to begin with but after my husband showered, the whole floor flooded as the drain was plugged. The water went up our bedsheets and the entire bedroom floor was a wet mess. Under the bed was dirt and used slippers. The safe in the bedroom did not work either. We had friends that were flown in early but had to stay at a hotel across the street. We wanted our daughters friend to stay with us but she was not allowed, as no wristband but they were checking in the next day? Few days later, my son’s wristband was torn off on the rocks in the ocean and when we went to get a new one, they wanted 500pesos? For plastic? Heck no. Only two out of the four restaurants, that you had to book 3 days in advance were actually good. The one wouldn’t let us in until our whole party was there. One child was in the washroom and they would not sit us until he was there. If he wasn’t back in 10 minutes, we would lose our reservation even though half the tables were empty. We tried to get an extra seat one night for a friend that was on the resort and they said no, although half the tables were empty. Not very accommodating with anything basically.

The property was really nice for an older building. It was kept clean and the staff were great! The week we were there the Surf and Turf restaurant wasn't really ever open and there was no Mexico theme night (that was occuring the night we left, but did not happen the first night we were there).

Great service and help from Carlos and Arturo from the guest service desk. Repetitive but lots of buffet options daily so you can find something you like for each meal.

During our recent 7-day stay at Cantel Del Sol, my family and I were thoroughly pleased with the accommodation, cleanliness, food quality, and services provided. Despite being an older establishment, Cantel Del Sol maintains its charm with a well-preserved Mexican-style resort ambiance. It proved to be an excellent destination for relaxation, offering a serene environment to unwind, enjoy the beach, and embrace the warmth of the sun.

Stayed with family with 2 young kids for a week. Excellent people and excellent service. Every staff would help with a smile. They kept the property so clean and had great night shows for their guests. Would definitely recommend Canto Del Sol

We had mixed views on this stay. The grounds were nice. Pools were good. Buffet was good. Very hard to book at the a la cart restaurants. Our room was in the Mountain section which was very dated. A/C had high/med/low settings but were not marked. We couldn't get a good consistent temperature. The shower temperature would not stay constant. They did not provide a map of the property so it was hard to navigate. I lost a key card and was charged $200 pesos which is a bit extreme for a key card.

The property definitely requires updates. However, no issue with the staff. Everyone is amazing and courteous. Buffet is very average. We only enjoyed the morning buffet afternoon and evening buffet lacked taste and appeal. A payment carte on site Restaurants are amazing.

This property is on the older side and requires updating. Our sliding door would not shut properly. Food was not bad. Can only eat A La Carte restaurant every 2 days and you must make reservations in advance. The lady at the reservation counter could be more friendly. She makes it obvious she does not like her job. Front staff does not seem to know what they are doing. Did not provide welcome letter to us right away which had all the questions i needed answered. They are very stingy with water bottles. We are a family of 4 and they gave us 2 bottles only for the entire stay. I asked for 2 more and they said they only provide 2 bottles for the room eventhough it states right on the welcome letter that each guest is to receive a water bottle. The guest service man just left a sour taste in my mouth. I felt so deflated as we wanted 2 water bottles for my kids so we are not drinking from the same bottle. There are water containers on site to refill your water by lobby and in gym. Gym and tennis were great! If you get a larger room in the mountain side, you will be further away from the pool and the beach. If you swim in the ocean make sure you go past the rocks on the right side as there will be less rocks. My son cut his feet badly on the first day. Make sure you try Cevecheria restaurant for lunch. It's good. There was an event every night. Overall, this property I would say is average. Staff at the main restaurant were all friendly. All the bartenders too.
