Mampei Hotel was wonderful. Much better than I expected considering the price and age of the hotel. The location is good. This is a very beautiful ryokan. It has gone through renovations so the interior is new and modern, but it has also retained the charms of a ryokan with tatami floors, indoor gardens etc. The room is very big and well heated. We really enjoyed our stay here. The location was perfect, with Old Karuizawa Ginza Street right outside the hotel, making it super convenient to explore. The rooms were spacious and comfortable, and we loved the organic-smelling toiletries. Staff were always polite and helpful throughout our stay. Prompt and attentive service staff. You get free transfers to anywhere within the Prince establishments. Big and comfortable room, with a spacious and beautiful lobby. Of course the natural surrounding is pleasing to the eyes.

We stayed as a family of 4 (5&8yo) and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Whilst they sometimes were a little short on English the staff tried very hard at every opportunity to assist us and make our stay enjoyable. Breakfast is great and we enjoyed it every day and the private onsen is a highlight - very relaxing and I would definitely recommend booking it. Hotel is close to the train and we found it easy to walk around town for dinner, etc.

The hotel only a 5min walk from Karuizawa station. Bike rentals are available in the hotel itself, which was very convenient. You can cycle to Kumoba pond and the Old Ginza Street and be able to reach in less than 30mins. I stayed for 7 nights. Breakfast was delivered in a basket at your preferred time (from 7am to 9.30am). The Karuizawa Marriott was a fantastic place to stay in. We decided to head out of Tokyo for the peaceful countryside and Karuizawa was exactly that. The Marriott was one of the further hotels (around 5km) from the Karuizawa train station (which is just beside the Karuizawa Prince Shopping Area) but the fact that it was more remote made it all the more peaceful and enjoyable.
