"The Horton Grand is a lovely property in the Gaslamp Quarter, convenient to bars and restaurants but not in the middle of things so that it is peaceful. It is reasonably priced compared to other hotels in the area. It has a beautiful atrium with white lights on trees and furniture to relax, eat or enjoy a drink. There is also the Salt & Whiskey bar adjacent the hotel. We were upgraded to a suite upon arrival which was a nice perk, and staff members were kind and helpful during our stay. The only negative comment I have is about the daily "destination fee" of $28 added to the room price. It is to supposedly to cover the fitness room, business center, bottled water, one complimentary bar coupon per person per stay (so is really complimentary?). There seemed to be no one in the fitness or business center while we were there (we did not use either) and we certainly did not drink $139 worth of bottled water and 2 well drinks at the bar! The fee was high in our opinion. "
"I would have given it 5 stars on property condition only because the air conditioning units inside the room are so old, it takes forever to get the room cold since the air barely blows out. Other than that, staff was amazing! Hotel was a vibe! "
"4.5 stars. The 0.5 star deduction is due to one particular front desk personnel's rude behavior upon checking out on 8/17/25 morning. She was slurping a starbuck ice coffee intermittently while talking and then set the drink right in front of me when she had to type. She scowled at my daughter and me from time to time and gave short answers in an annoyed tone to everything I said. At first I thought I was just being oversensitive, but after we left the hotel my daughter also mentioned that the front desk rep seemed rude. I forgot to check her name tag since I was shocked by her behavior. I also told this front desk staff that free breakfast was included in both of my room rates. But later that morning I received an invoice from Hyatt, which includes $160 breakfast fee. I had to call Hyatt back to get that breakfast fee off my bill.
All the other Hyatt staff I met during my San Diego trip were very courteous, especially Lauren (of the front desk) when I checked in. She was very considerate and offered to put both rooms on the same floor level. She also reminded me to let the restaurant hostess know that free breakfast was included in both room rates to avoid unnecessary extra charges. She gave a very detailed description of the hotel's amenities and clear instructions on how to get to our rooms.
We stayed in double queen bed rooms with a view of the bay on the left side and a city view on the right side. Both rooms were spacious and clean, but the bathroom counters were slig"
"This was such an incredible experience, from the bell staff, cleaning crew, front desk, and the morning breakfast staff was beyond amazing. The room was cozy and the bed extremely comfortable , overall a great stay and looking forward to our next one."
"I had an absolutely amazing stay! The room was spotless, comfortable, and exceeded my expectations. The staff went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect—friendly, attentive, and welcoming from check-in to check-out. The atmosphere was relaxing, and the amenities were top-notch. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a wonderful experience!"
