When checking-in, I asked if we could pay to include breakfast and when I asked if there was anything vegetarian available, the reception staff member literally laughed at his colleague before informing me that was not an option. Later, we decided to go for a swim and because it was stipulated that we not use the bath towels for swimming, we asked at reception if they had any towels we could use at the lake; they used Google Translate to convey that this service was not available “yet” (?) and then had a discussion in Japanese concluding in the confirmation that they couldn’t help us. We went and had a swim without anything to dry ourselves with, wishing we could walk through reception dripping wet to prove a point. They had a pool, but it was empty - at least the little water that WAS in it was put to good use by a large frog that lived there. Near the blocked-off small pier and beach outside the hotel, there were several rotting dead fish. There was a general ‘Hotel California’ vibe about the place and we got the sense that it was all a little bit sub-standard and lacked the sense of professionalism one would expect for the cost.
The area itself is beautiful and the hotel has so much unrealised potential as a beautiful resort but it was definitely not at the time we visited in summer of 2024. Some of the staff seemed nice enough but the rude, unhelpful ones left a bad taste in the mouth. What a shame.
