"We have stayed here quite a few times and the staff are always so helpful, professional and friendly. Everything is beautifully designed, clean and well maintained. Our room was lovely. It was both comfortable and tasteful. The breakfast buffet had great variety and was thoughtfully displayed and very well staffed. We are always impressed with how smoothly everything runs at this hotel. The pride that all staff take in their work shines through at every level of this establishment :)"

"The staff were very kind and helpful, the hotel is in a nice location, a taxi or car ride from town, has a bar and you can sit outside over looking the lake with an amazing view. The hot tub in the room was so relaxing and again with lovely views. Would stay again ๐Ÿ˜"

Riverside Hotel

8/10 Good
"Stayed for two nights here in August 2026. Parking was included and undercover so great for a short stay to just leave it there safely. The room was ok, if not a little tired. With marks on the wall, and MDF work surfaces looking frayed. The room was comfy, excellent mattress and pillows, though in a heatwave, due to it being an old mill it was stifling hot. A fan was available but that just moves the heat around. Plugs were sparse, and you'll need a usb charger plug as they aren't integrated plugs yet. Staff were fabulous, really helpful, the barman was a hoot, and so friendly with guests. English Breakfast was fresh and hot, there was a plentiful choice of cereals, fruit and drinks too. We ate at night in the Tannery room, burger and a small fish and chips, both were plentiful and fairly priced. Finally it was a welcome bonus to have a swimming pool, sauna, jacuzzi and steam room available for guests to use after a full day discovering the lakes. A really pleasant stay, the hotel rooms could do with a bit of updating, though the gym, pool, bar were fresh, but it's all a matter of cost."

Macdonald Old England Hotel & Spa

Macdonald Old England Hotel & Spa

8/10 Good
"Excellent central location. The staff were helpful especially in reception and spa. The dining staff were efficient but less cheerful than one might expect in an establishment like this. Breakfast was plentiful but uninspiring. Luggage drop off was difficult due to heavy vehicles blocking the hotel entrance. The plumbing made a loud vibrating noise for 10 minutes after each toilet flush. The shower had excellent pressure and hot water. The room mini fridge had the internal light hanging down and the fridge didnโ€™t appear to work. The hotel has old world charm and despite the small foibles mentioned above is a good accommodation option."
