The location of the hotel is ideal if you want a quieter area and which is close to the famous Temples near GION. The room is adequately furnished and comfortable making a quiet rest every night a dream. Amenities are limited but the spa is a nice touch especially to soothe the aching muscles after a day out exploring Kyoto. There are two things which dampen our stay : 1. We had booked a kaiseki lunch for our last day at a local restaurant through the hotel and all was good until the check out. For some reason the staff insisted that we leave our luggage behind and return to retrieve them after the lunch. As we had arranged to send our heavy suitcases to Osaka the day before, we only had our hand carry bags. It was ridiculous to ask us to walk back to the hotel after lunch as the restaurant is located on the other side of the river. It was a good 10-12 minutes walk. We didn’t give in and it was quite unpleasant to have to debate over this at check out. We are pretty sure it was a misunderstanding due to the language differences but it did sully our impression of this hotel. 2. The hotel does not practice green initiatives - they still supply toiletries in plastic bottles and there was no option to opt out of the daily sheet changing. Again we think it was a misunderstanding somewhere but it’s good to let the hotel know.
