Excellent hotel! The location is perfect in the Gion District, staff is more than happy to help with anything! Breakfast was shockingly good for a hotel breakfast, lots of options only complaint with that is starts at 7:00 am. The rooms were small, but it really doesn’t matter since you spend so little time in the room if you are a tourist, there is no desk or work area except the lobby, so it’s a bit hard to get any work done. overall, excellent hotel!

We understand that Japanese policy is known to be rigid. It seems unkind for the Granbell to have made their guests sit in the lobby for over an hour when our room was ready and our luggage was sitting in the room. We arrived to the hotel around noon, left our luggage and walked around for a couple hours having been told our room was not ready. We returned and saw that our luggage was no longer in the holding area. We asked to go to our room, they already had our passport info, and a staff member took us to it. A miscommunication. She thought we wanted something from our suitcases. We just wanted, after 36 hours of traveling in hot weather, a shower and a nap. But the staff member said No, we had to return to the lobby for over an hour until 3 PM, official check-in time. My husband slept sitting up in the lobby for that hour. Another couple were also waiting. None of us could understand the hotel's position in making us sit there when the rooms were ready. We compared notes that in all the cities we had visited, we had never experienced this. On the contrary, other hotels, large and small will always try and make their guests as comfortable as posdible.

This hotel was perfectly located very convenient to shrines (we can see them from our room) and shopping. We enjoy the room with the big picture window and views of Kyoto. The bar at the hotel was convenient for a drink in the afternoon/evening. The staff was very friendly and the amenities were great (umbrellas to borrow during rain).

Enjoyed our stay. Great building, large room, and friendly staff. BUT there is another Granbell hotel in Kyoto in a different location, and this causes confusion for two reasons. 1 - I clearly remember booking the other location, which is in a more central location and has more amenities. (Expedia and/or Granbell switched it out on me... I found out when I arrived in Kyoto) 2 - Taxi drivers are NOT aware of the existence of this second location and always want to go to the original Granbell hotel. Happened twice to me. There is room to improve on this naming problem, unless it's intentional.

This hotel was a very wonderful place to stay, the rooms are excellent and comfortable. A great location to walk around, eat, and shop. The staff here is beyond exceptional everyone is friendly, helpful, and easily able to communicate with.

We had stayed in this property 6 years ago just after it had first opened. Coming back we were pleasantly surprised that it was still a really great and it was almost like new. The staff were really helpful with restaurant bookings and general advice. It’s also great to have the onsen inside the hotel after a long days walking. I would easily recommend to people visiting Kyoto.

Great location. Decent breakfast, served until 11am which is nice. The Premiere King Room is quite small. Maid service only if you stay longer than 3 days. There are no drawers, closets or places to put your luggage or clothes. There is no space between the bed and the wall so you have to crawl in and out of bed….not something I have often encountered. Seems a bit expensive for this setup. Check out the competition in the area before booking.
