"The furniture in the room was old fashioned and knocked around. The bed was a double and to small for two people. It was also ultra soft and rolled to the middle. Shower was good and powerfull, only had to climb over the bath. Toilet roll cheap. Ok for a cheap night with no luxuries but nothing flashy. Stayed 2 nights and both evenings had to got back to reception for the key card to be reactivated and receptionist had dissapeared. Didn't use any of the other facilities."

"Adequate hotel - conveniently located in the centre of Winchester. About 15 min walk from the train station. The bus station is about 5 min away. Lot of good restaurants around especially if you like Nepalese food.The hotel will store your luggage for you if you ask them to. The only thing I didn't like was the pattern on the carpet on the first floor corridor - almost like a route map for robot vacuum cleaners to follow."

"We recently stayed at Marwell Hotel for two nights and, unfortunately, it was a mixed experience leaning towards disappointing. On arrival, we were given our key and sent to a room that clearly hadn’t been cleaned—half-made beds, a pint glass, a pepperami wrapper, no towels, and marks on surfaces. We had to carry all our belongings back to reception, which wasn’t ideal. The manager did resolve the issue and offered a complimentary drink while we waited, and we were moved rooms after about 30 minutes, which we appreciated. What let the experience down most was the atmosphere among staff. We witnessed multiple arguments involving management, including one near our room with the cleaning team and another with a receptionist. The receptionist remained calm and professional throughout, but the manager’s behaviour came across as rude and uncomfortable to witness. The second room was acceptable but not without issues—cold on arrival, with no working heating (an oil radiator was provided), and no windows to open, which made the room feel stuffy overnight. There were some positives: the bar food was lovely, and the staff we encountered there were friendly, although clearly understaffed. Breakfast was okay but limited, and service was slow. The hotel itself is in a great location for visiting Marwell Zoo and is peaceful, but it is very dated and in need of refurbishment. The website photos don’t reflect the current condition. The pool was also closed during our stay. "

"Hotel clean and tidy.Location perfect for exploring Salisbury, staff very friendly, breakfast very good and restaurant food reasonably priced, fresh and tasty. Hotel looking a bit tired and in need of some love and attention regarding decor, some carpets, etc. Lovely to sit outside on the river bank with a drink in hand or if the weather not favourable in the restaurant looking out "

"I had a very large quiet room at the side of the building on the first floor. Number 9. The bed was wonderful , comfortable with good pillows. The building itself is an historical gem. The furnishings and renovated bathroom are top notch. Breakfast was included, There could be a bit more choice but adequate. Location for the Cathedral opposite couldn’t be more perfect. A great team at The Chapter house. Thank you . "

"The hotel was ok. We booked an executive double room, areas of it could do with updating the sofa was very hard and stained. We were on tbe ground floor but we’rel left with no choice but to sleep with the patio door open as the heating was blasting out. The Spa is in need of some serious attention, the Jacuzzi has clearly been out of action for months, and it doesn’t look like anything is going to be done about fixing it any time soon. The changing rooms are in need of a deep clean and tbe chairs in the spa reception are all in need of replacement as all have ripped upholstery. One evening we went to the bar the glasses we were given were dirty (both had visible lipstick marks) breakfast was adequate for the price, but fairly basic. "

"The breakfast was very good for buffet with cooked options. It’s well located for Winchester but not a hotel with charming views and paying for parking on top of room charges needs looking at. Why not make it inclusive ? A fridge in the room and capsule coffee maker would be more useful than a safe. "
