Pay some extra money and stay somewhere else if you don’t want to breathe in cigarette smoke or if you want some sleep. The room windows all opened out onto the smoking deck - what a treat- especially when traveling with kids- love a good ciggy for the family floating in through the louvre windows that you can’t close. On friday night we were then ‘treated’ to the piano man - live music until 1 am which felt like it was under the floor. Seriously, why rent the rooms out as accommodation when there is no chance for anyone to breathe air or get sleep?
This hotel is a fun place to hangout with convenient access to local transportation, bronte beach, restaurants, and a convenience store. I didn't expect a late night piano man to be performing (I was trying to sleep early and wake up early to see the sun rise) but I enjoyed his performance! The rooms are not far from the restaurant/bar area and outdoor seating area so if people are being noisy you will likely hear them from your room.
Great atmosphere but leaving the windows open in the heat let the sirens and motorbike noise in. Also too light - curtains could be more block out. The mattress had been put on the bed upside down so the wires were just under the fabric.
The room had cockroaches in it. The room was also above the band that played until 1.am, had a meal down stairs and the staff where dismissive. The food was ordinary and I would not recommend anyone to stay there.

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service, room comfort
Very good for pub room, very nicely renovated in keeping with original art deco style. Staff were excellent, helpful and friendly.
Greet staff and very nice atmosphere. Expected it to be fairly noisy as at a busy intersection and rooms are over a popular pub. Food at pub was great. Only negative was lack of a desk or table in the room.
Handy to my function but no attention paid to guest facility, dirty linen in bathroom, generally unclean. Suggest the landlord concentrates on running the nice bar on ground floor, close the accomodation!!
I checked in late on a Saturday night in July, so quite cold.
My room had no heating, no working TV, no electric blanket and the bathroom was dirty.
The bed was OK and seemed freshly made, but no electric blanket and the doona was lightweight so I was not warm.
The music in the bar didn't stop until after midnight. I expected some noise being a pub hotel, but the noise level was pretty high.
I was very glad to checkout in the morning.
Noise yes, windows vibrated with traffic noise but ear plugs helped. Curtains let sunrise morning light in, no block out at all, no way could sleep in. Balcony had used cigarette butts and was very unclean. Shower mouldy, towel rain broken, hot water on one night, cold another tepid another. Room smelled. minimal housekeeping equated to no housekeeping over four nights, bin full, no restocking of tea/coffee/milk. Fridge was good. Sheets clean, blankets/doona stained or dirty. Liked the old feel.
Super noisy from the buses.
Smelled. With windows open too polluted & loud.
Hot - no air con or fan.
No wifi in room.
TV did not work.

Very friendly staff in a good location
Had a very enjoyable experience stay here. Staff were very accommodating. The room was basic with not very good blinds but it was nice enough.

Good location - old hotel and maintenance issues
We were worried about staying due to reviews, but it was clean and in good location. Staff were very friendly, pub was good and we had a great walk to centennial park. Overall it was a fine place to stay, old and needs work, but clean which is fine. It was also a lot cheaper than anything else around, so I guess you get what you pay for.
Good location. Surprised no kettle or even a glass
We new it was pub accommodation but disappointed with the lack of basic facilities. For us the location was great. Noisy above the pub but great music to listen to.
