Less than 30 miles from west London, Windsor is surrounded by the beautiful countryside of Royal Berkshire and makes a great day trip away from London. You’ll discover a magnificent town in a glorious riverside location with great shopping, restaurants and of course Windsor Castle the Queen’s official royal residence said to be the largest and oldest occupied castle in the world.

With bed & breakfasts, campsites, hotels and even boats, Windsor and the wider Berkshire countryside has all types of accommodation for you to enjoy, each offering their own unique holiday experience.

Described as a must see for any trip to England, a visit to Windsor Castle should be high on anyone’s list of things to do in Windsor. Once you walk through the castle gates you will soon understand why Queen Elizabeth considers this to be home beautiful and regal, take a guided tour and learn more of the history of this royal home.

If you are visiting with children take them for a mesmerising visit to Fudge Kitchen. With entertaining experts on hand to guide you through the whole fudge making process. It makes for something quirky that the whole family can take part in.

Take time out and explore the rest of Berkshire. Ascot is renowned for its famous racecourse, attracting thousands of visitors per year. If you enjoy horseracing then plan your visit carefully around the racing calendar and experience Ascot in all of its glory on race day.

The nearby Thorpe Park gives reason to bring the family to Ascot as one of the most popular theme parks in England. With a variety of roller-coaster rides for the fearless and other amusement activities there is something for everyone to make this a family day out.

If you are a fan of stately homes then the exquisite Highclere Castle will not disappoint - home of popular TV series Downton Abbey. A visit makes for an enjoyable afternoon with pretty gardens to explore as well.

Eton is another famous Berkshire town on the banks of the River Thames. It is well worth a visit to sample its rich history and beautiful grounds. Take a gander at its famous public school, Eton College. They offer guided tours where you can learn the history of this unique building and some stories of its now famous past pupils.

In the far west of Berkshire, alongside the Kennet & Avon Canal, is the charming market town of Hungerford. Situated amidst beautiful countryside with a range of warm and friendly country pubs to tempt you, you can easily lose yourself here for a couple of hours. Great but very spread out
"Navigating around the hotel, which is lovely, is a challenge. My room was miles away from reception in a separate modern annex and breakfast was very busy and a bit chaotic. Price was good value though and room was good when I found it!"
