Century Park

Century Park showing a city and a river or creek
Escape the city smog and head to Century Park for an afternoon of fun and adventure, flying kites and exploring the lakes and canals.

Lose yourself in the islands, bamboo forests and tree-lined avenues of Shanghai’s biggest park. Spread over 140 hectares in the centre of the Pudong District, Century Park provides an opportunity for rest and relaxation away from the hustle and bustle of the concrete metropolis. Sit back and let the sights, sounds and smells of this little piece of paradise wash over you.

The Lake District is dotted with tiny islands for you to explore – hire a boat and spend a few hours discovering the hidden secrets of the canals. Be sure to visit the 2-hectare sanctuary of Bird Island, which plays home to over 50 different plants and a broad range of birdlife. Keep an eye out for the centenarian ginkgo tree, a fine example of this native Chinese plant which calls the Shaded Bird Sanctuary home.

Back on solid ground, you’ll find tandem bicycles and cycling-cars available to rent. These are a great way to explore the landscaped lawns, beautiful Bonsai garden and carefully designed floral displays throughout the park. Combining Chinese landscaping with British and Japanese influences, this is a perfect example of multi-cultural synthesis. Children will love the play area, designed to maximise creativity and inventiveness. Why not buy a kite from one of the vendors and introduce them to some traditional Chinese kite flying.

If you’re looking for a way to unwind, you can always hit a few holes on the miniature golf course. The Club House hires out all the equipment you need and has a great little café where you can enjoy a coffee and a bite to eat while taking in splendid views across the park.

Century Park is open every day for just a small entry fee. It is just a couple of minutes from Century Park underground station and is also accessible by train and bus.
