Hotels near the Cat Museum

The first cat museum in the world is located in Petra Jaya, a suburb of the Malaysian city of Kuching. It is a predominantly residential area that sits on the north side of the Sarawak River, though there are a number of attractions here, making it a pleasant area to stay in while visiting the city.

The Cat Museum was founded in 1993 and is owned by the Kuching North City Hall (DBKU). It sits on Bukit Siol around 60 metres above sea level and takes up an area of 1,035 square metres. There are over 4,000 artefacts in the museum that are related to cats and these are spread out over four galleries.

Where to stay

There are no hotels near the Cat Museum itself, with the closest accommodation being located in Kuching City Centre along the banks of the Sarawak River. There are quite a few things to see close to the museum, including: The Astana, Stadium Sarawak, DBKU Orchid Garden, Fort Margherita and the Sarawak State Library. If visitors head across the river into Kuching they can visit the Sarawak Museum and Kuching City Mosque.

There are quite a few accommodation options on the south side of the river that are appealing to all budgets, from one-star hostels to the lavish Pullman Kuching. In fact, the entire riverfront area is dotted with accommodation and is the most popular area for travellers to stay in.

Most of the hotels near the Cat Museum are two- and three-star guesthouses and inns, though there are a few more luxurious properties nearby, including the Hilton Kuching and Riverside Majestic Hotel. Nearly all of these properties have air-conditioned guest rooms and high-speed internet service in public areas and in the rooms. Some also have a swimming pool, fitness facilities, business services and a restaurant onsite. Many of these properties also offer free parking, which is a plus for visiting the Cat Museum, as it is hard to access by public transportation.
