"The expedia staff on site (Melisa, Zanaya and team) are excellent. Really appreciated their attentiveness. They helped make the trip. Rooms are good but could use some updating and air conditioners need updating. Room luggage racks would be good. Bar staff were good. Adult pool and access seemed oversold, could never get in chairs at pool. Speakers by pool and beach can be loud at times but just try and get seats away from there. Pools are great for kids and families. "

"If you’re a first timer for all inclusive, adult only resorts, this is the place for you. With several restaurants and bars on the property, a huge pool, a cafe, a buffet for anytime of the day, a spa, a sushi bar upstairs with another pool, a 24/7 gym, and an open beach front, you cannot go wrong with Wyndham Alltra at Playa del Carmen. The staff are extremely friendly and attentive to your needs. Service was excellent with food, drinks, and housekeeping. Right on the shoreline, you’re a one minute walk away from the famous “5th Avenue” for entertainment and shopping. The neighbourhood is quiet during the day and lively at night. Great programming with dance lessons, salsa making, games, karaoke and so forth. Some downsides include the constant sargassum (seaweed) that washes up on the shore every day. The smell can get a bit bad and can be a bit of an eyesore, but for my partner and I, it wasn’t a dealbreaker. Resort staff are constantly cleaning it and there is plenty of beachfront on other properties nearby to enjoy the view. Another downside we experienced was the lack of money exchange. While everyone should be prepared to exchange their currency to either Mexican pesos or American dollars, there were limited options on exchanging for smaller denominations which is critical if you are tipping. Otherwise, the rooms were prepared and maintained beautifully, the food was great and we had no issues nor did we get sick. Would visit again for a second time!"

"Enjoyed our stay. The Activities Staff was amazing (shout out to Leo, Leslie, Paola, Natalia, Davina, and Jorge) and we enjoyed the beach, pool, and evening entertainment. Check in was fine, it it would have been helpful to know that we would have a building concierge who would give us all the specific details (Building 18- Michelle Ramirez was fantastic!). Beautiful property and it met our expectations. "

"This was our first stay at a Riu resort and first time we’ve vacationed in Playacar specifically. The location was great; the little village market, the small ruins that were in the area and the short walk to Playa del Carmen made it a fantastic location. It felt safe and was close to many amenities. The beach was beautiful and was walkable to Playa del Carmen as well. The resort did a great job of managing the beach and keeping on top of the sargassum, which was an ongoing effort. There was always plenty of seating on the beach. The food at the buffets was great in quality and variety. It was also a plus to be able to explore and have use of the many other Riu properties close-by. The service was really impressive too. The rooms were kept very clean and the waitstaff and lobby concierges were all extremely attentive, kind and helpful. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay. A couple of things we do think would make a future visit even better: the decor was a bit corporate/cold/dated. While they were well-appointed, the rooms felt a bit like they were out of the 1980’s with the purple colour palette and glass block and silver/black accents. It would be nice if the rooms took inspiration more from the traditional and natural textures/palette of the property to feel a bit more spa-like and reflective of the gorgeous landscape and rich history. The beds in our room were also extremely firm. Not a big complaint at all. Was a great trip overall and we are grateful for the memories. "

"Definitely overrated. Where do I start. 1) Upon arrival, you would think the check in would be much faster. Plenty of employees standing around which could be helping but aren’t. 2) I arrive at my room which has the walk-out pool and literally walked out to an 8 x 8 one foot max pool. Didn’t even connect to the main pool area. 3) On hotels.com it says (2) queen beds and they stated hotels.com doesn’t know anything about their process. After enough going back and forth, they moved us to the furthest area back which had (2) queen and walk-out pool. I shouldn’t have to spend hours of vacation sorting that out 4) we had a big family with us and they made it extremely difficult for us to eat together. I would understand if seating was limited, but the areas were 1/2 empty. You should accommodate your guests when possible and it was always possible but basically refused. 5) We were booked at the older Xcaret hotel area VS newer area. Newer area looked like a ghost town so maybe so overloaded the old side to make it seem fuller. Not sure 6) you don’t even have good beach access Overall, I won’t be going back. We’ve been to many other places with less expensive rooms, better views, better beaches, and better service"
