My wife and I routinely stay here once a year when we visit Hokkaido and it is always one of the highlights of our trip. Everything is top quality and it is a very relaxing place.

The hotel offer Free ice cream (2 flavours), night soba, honey tasting, yogurt, beer at different time frame. Very interesting experience. I hope they can clean the windows in guest room.

A lovely hotel with very friendly and helpful staff. The baths are so relaxing and the room very comfortable. Only two negative comments: firstly the air con in the room is heating only, so it gets very hot and stuffy overnight unless you open a window- and then it was noisy. Second: absolutely no western food options and there’s isn’t much around by way of restaurants that were open when we were there. Not everyone wants Japanese food for breakfast. We had to buy yoghurt etc from the food mart.

Amazing stay!
The Shogetsu Grand Hotel greatly exceeded our expectations! We had an amazing time. Everything was 5 star (food, service etc.) with some nice extra surprises thrown in. The hot spring baths were very relaxing.

Very nice hotel.
Very nice hotel. The only shortcoming is that the hot spring is rather small. However, as the hotel is relatively small, overall its still ok.

Shops location of the hotel , it's very modern from outside . Great architecture considering the reception is at 6 floor and onsen is below . Fantastic view of the river .

Established hotel in a nice setting with good food
Immediately after we get off the bus from Sapporo staff member rushed out from the hotel and helped us move the big luggages from the bus station across the street into the hotel. While I was finishing up the check in procedures they are cleaning the outside and the wheels on my luggage. These are the little details that gave me an first impression that this 4 star hotel really pay attention to little details. Staff member then took my luggages to my room (of course not expecting a tip because this is japan). She gave a brief tour of the room and we were impressed by the scenery outside the window. All the rooms in this hotel are facing the river (the river is not huge and have much bigger water flow a hundred years ago not sure the reason why). The onsen area is clean with a lot of cleanings supplies like facial rubs, shampoo, body soap, etc. The water temperature is around 40-42'c which is on the medium temperature and just right. There is also a outside section which is outdoor and boy it was chill. In room dinner was served right at the prearranged time and brought into the room, served and cleaned up by another staff member. The dinner was excellent but don't expect you will be full like a buffet type. The food portion is just right and it's all about the presentation. Breakfast was served at the cafe on the 6th floor and it is excellent again. Prestation and taste is excellent. Front desk also helped us to book the return bus back to Sapporo. excellent hotel !

Nice hotel
Love the Japanese style room. Came with dinner and breakfast next day. Room was clean and good even though little dated but there's a charm in it. Didn't like the smoke lingering behind. Better to ask for a smoke free room. Public bath by sex and was so good. All amenities provided for and no need to bring anything at all except your makeup and a change of clothes literally. The Kappaliner bus from Odori/Sapporo stops opposite the hotel. Very convenient. Great place to relax. There's a free honey buffer from 2pm onwards.

Excellent service:
We stayed in a traditional Japanese style room. The room was clean, comfy and had great view. The staffs were polite, helpful and friendly. Breakfast and Dinner were traditional Japanese style. There was also a lounge providing coffee, tea and waffles with varieties of flavoured honey. Onsen was great too with indoor and outdoor pools.

Larger mid-size hotel with 80+ years history. Natural onsen from the source. Recently renovated. Dining in restaurant for dinner and breakfast. Great food and service. Beers and extra a la carte orders all reasonable prices. Little Jozankei town for a little walk just around hotel area. Nice indoor and outdoor baths with the latter looking out to the valley. Bus from Sapporo stops virtually right in front of hotel so no need to search for it or drag bags up and down hills.

Great views, baths and food in the center of town!
Spent one night here as part of a trip around Hokkaido; very easy to access from Sapporo via coach. The hotel is very centrally located (Jozenkei is a compact little town) with a great view over the river - one which you can enjoy from the outdoor hot springs baths. The room was very quiet and comfortable, with a nice view over the river from the windows, and the public baths very clean and quiet. The service was excellent - helpful with recommendations for lunch nearby and happy to look after my suitcase until check-in when I arrived in the morning. The meals - both dinner and breakfast - were exceptional, up there with the best I've enjoyed in other traditional hotels and ryokans. Thoroughly recommend the half-board option here.

Everything was good. The view from the room was fabulous. The only glitch was at check in. The staff seemed have difficulty finding my booking. It just took a little bit longer to resolve and the staff was very courteous. I have no negative feeling at all. The problem might be due to communication between the hotel and hotels.com.

Helpful staff and great service
The staff were extremely polite and helpful. It was rainy at the time when we left the hotel and they drove our car to the hotel entrance and held umbrella for us so that we did not get wet. It was impressive! Dinner set was also delvious.

Suberb onsen hotel in the mountains
Great stay at a really nice and classy hotel facility. Only slight complaint was that the futon ran a bit short and couldn't cover my legs entirely and I'm only 172cm, maybe there were longer ones but I was too tired to ask.

Memorable vacation at a Jozankei onsen resort
My wife and I stayed at this hotel for 3 nights. Although location is rather far from Sapporo downtown, this is somewhat expected of an onsen spa resort. The hotel is situated in a scenic Jozankei Onsen and Spa region with the backdrop of the mountains. Our tatami style room overlooks a river that flows through by the side of the property. An ideal place for a relaxing vacation. We enjoyed the Japanese style breakfast every morning. There is a honey buffet every evening at the lounge which we like it very much. The hotel has an on-site onsen which is very convenient for our use at any time. Front office staff are helpful and friendly.

Great hotel for R&R. Great location. Spa type room (modern, not Japanese style) with bath tub overlooking the gorge is magnificent and huge by any Japanese standard. Dinner and breakfast is great. Kudos to the chef. Some simple side piece in the dish like stir fried broccoli, not sure what the chef put in there, but it has depth in flavor (umami) but it shows that they really put in their heart in making the dish. Indoor onsen was outdated but will do. Outdoor onsen was a bit small but has a great view (visible from other hotel in winter coz all the leaves that suppose to block the view had already gone so guests in opposite hotel can see u when u walk around naked before u get in the pool...but here...no one cares) Most hotel staff can speak very little English. Communication is a bit on a tough side. A little note on one particular male, middle age, frontdesk staff with eye glasses. When I asked him some info about walking around for sightseeing in Jozankei area, he laugh in a sarcastic way (not usual for Japanese as I'm quite accustomed to Japanese people) and made me felt that it was a silly question. But after watching him served other guests, he always did that as well. So may be it's just his old habit. All female staffs are very polite and helpful, especially at dinner, the female waitress and the male maître d was superb. All and all, I'll definitely visit again in Autumn as I'm sure the view will be great.

Excellent resort with good Onsen, staff well manners and polite, room clean but tatami type a bit difficult to sleep. Room with good view too and hotel location is very near the bus stop. But the kaiseiki dinner and breakfast so-so only.

I used Hotels.com review as reference to book this hotel. It was rated over 4 and I was very disappointed with this hotel. The hotspring area is quite run down. No meals package could be arranged through hotels.com booking. Had to walk to adjacent hotel to have dinner.

Lovily hotel, clean and comfortable. Apart from the relaxing hot spring, we got free breakfast and free dinner which was the best deal I could think to eat in Japan. The food was delicious, and great presentation every meal ( amazed completetely different set/plates and display... every night and morning). Also offering free drinks of coffee, tea, juice and honey (20 types of honey) during the day is a great treated as well. If you are looking for worry free trip, this is the place I will recommend. Staffs are extremely polite and helpful. By the way, hotel is smart to offer the good quality of products make you want to buy them home...

Hotel location is excellent for travelers without a Car. It is closed to the bus stop. We had one night there, staying in the Japanese style room. The room is clean and comfy. Dinner and breakfast are awesome! You must have a try! Very nice staffs, although most of them don't speak English No wifi, even in the lobby. Don't forget to try the hot spring on the 4th floor.
