Top Chikuma Hotel Reviews
aduminoyu onyado nonomatsumoto
"I truly enjoyed my stay and would highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a memorable and authentic experience. What impressed me most was the incredibly welcoming staff, who made me feel at home from the moment I arrived. Their genuine hospitality added a personal touch that made all the difference. The experience felt authentic and thoughtfully curated, with so many small details carefully considered to make guests feel special. From the atmosphere to the little touches throughout my stay, everything contributed to a unique and memorable experience. It was clear that a lot of care and attention went into creating such a wonderful environment. I left with great memories and would happily return in the future."
THE CELECTON Matsumoto
"The Celecton is a nice, standard Japanese hotel. The rooms are small, but they are practical, very clean and amenities are good. If you want a hotel that is close to the Castle then this is a good one, but it is 10-15 minutes walk to the train station, restaurants, and the other attractions in Matsumoto. My room was facing the Castle but directly above a busy road, so it was quite noisy."
Toyoko Inn Matsumoto-eki Higashi-guchi
"Room was quite clean, good breakfast selection, drinks dispenser, skincare and other amenities available. Staff were very helpful"

Hotel JAL City Nagano
"I stayed at the JAL for 8 nights and was happy with the service. The location is great as it is a short walk to Zenkoji Temple, the Prefectural Museum and also to Nagano JR Station. Nagano was a fascinating city to visit and the JAL was situated in a good location for finding amenities such as shopping and food. I love to walk and I really enjoyed exploring the area around the hotel. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Although my room was rather crowded with 3 beds, it was kept clean and well stocked. My only complaint was that the breakfast for a Westerner was very limited and got predictable very quickly. The food was very good, presented well and tasted fine but after 8 breakfasts eating the same things I was ready for a change."
Hotel New Nagano NeXT
"Excellent breakfast! Affiliated with Wendyโs. Very clean room and many toiletries to choose from if you forgot some."

Kamesei Ryokan
"Beautiful though slightly older ryokan. Owners were absolutely lovely, helpful, very friendly and were great to have a chat with. Due to some communication issues we were unable to organise a meal there, but the owners were very apologetic and offered a free session in the private family onsen as recompense, which was lovely. The home made cookies were also delicious and we bought a box to take with us. This was our first ever stay in a ryokan so we were not quite sure what to expect. But I think we were all unified in our horror when we came back after dinner to see our beds. We assumed a futon mattress would be like what we are familiar with at home (Australia), which is a 10cm mattress. These were so much worse than expected, and after staying in two more ryokans during the course of our stay, we realised this is standard. That the Japanese futon mattress is about 2cm thick. I kid you not. Three of our beds had 2 of these mattressโs, and one only had one. For all intents and purposes we were basically just sleeping on the floor. Combine that with the fact the air on didnโt seem to be working and we had to leave the window open all night, I would say this was pretty much our worst night sleep for our whole trip. Which is a shame, because there was so much to love about this ryokan, its owners and the location. Such a cute and peaceful little town."
