The booking was not clear that room was only for our use between 11pm and 11am and we had to checkout and then not return until 11pm at night. Inconvenient to say the least.
This hotel really annoyed me. They have a deal where you check in at 11pm and check out at 11am. This is so they can make as much money as possible by letting somebody else rent the room for a few hours to “rest”. I paid a lot of money for the room and as far as I am concerned I should have had it all day.
I asked if it was possible to check in at 8pm and was told I could for 4000 yen. Considering the room was 20,000 already I politely declined.
I had intended to stay another 2 nights, but felt I would be asked to vacate the room between 11am and 11pm. The language barrier deterred me from even trying.
I stayed at 3 hotels in Japan, and this was the only one where the check in staff were borderline rude. Everywhere else were incredibly welcoming.
The other problem with check in at 11pm is you are (possibly) trying to sleep. The cleaning staff are doing their final touches and new guests are settling in, so it’s really noisy.
The room itself was really nice, but there is loud music playing in the corridor which you can hear at night.
Plenty of better places around where you can check in at a normal time, which is exactly what I did for the next night.
