“Excellent, but a bit out of town”
The complimentary glass of wine on arrival did wonders!
“Best hotel for a while”
Pleasant, very adequate room. Relaxing bar area after tramping the Somme battlefield. First rate restaurant. Very friendly staff.
“Pleasant stay”
The hotel is conveniently situated for touring the Battle of the Somme although further out of town than expected. Magnificent facilities, dining room menu fairly limited but the town does not offer any competition. Friendly English speaking staff. A few more seats and tables outside would have been appreciated as it was very warm whilst we were there. The bedrooms are of an adequate size and nicely appointed - the separate toilet is a nice touch! Our room did have air conditioning which was greatly appreciated.
“Nice hotel mid size hotel in Albert with friendly service”
We stayed one night after touring WW1 sites nearby. Nice hotel, clean with excellent continental breakfast. Large lounge with a patio. Ample parking which is not always guaranteed in Europe.
“Nothing Special”
The Royal Picardie looks rather grand from the outside and is perfectly adequate for a couple of nights' stay. However, it does seem to lack staff and was run by a young pleasant couple who seemed to do everything themselves (it is not a small hotel). The evening meal we had on the first night was diasappointing, so we ate elsewhere on subsequent evenings. It's a well located base for exploring the Somme Battlefields, but a pity it lacks charcter and service.
“Somme Hotel”
Overall the hotel was OK although they did not offer any lunch options. They did open the bar on our arrival and provided somewhat stale breakfast croissants to satisfy our hunger. The rooms were spacious and well appointed and well equipped. Worst part was breakfast which was dreadful and expensive at Euros 12.70 each for a continental breakfast. Only hot food was a boiled egg that you had to cook yourself. Service was poor and not too clean. The room was like a dungeon with shutters over every window. They need to improve the breakfast facilities and quality of food . There is a nice restaurant with a good outlook, so why didn't they use that for breakfast! Good location for our tour of WWI places of interest.
“Understaffed”
Felt really sorry for the single person trying to do everything - answer the phone, do reception, serve in the bar and serve in the restaurant - he did his best. They need more staff. Thought the food was overpriced for the quality but the hotel is a bit of a walk from anywhere else so I guess they have a captive audience.
