Peninsula Malaysia’s southern-most city, Johor Bahru (JB), is an industrial town that is also the capital of the state of Johor. Johor Bahru is certainly a welcoming city that is well known for its comparatively cheap shopping and interesting dining experiences.

Food in Johor Baru
Chinese, Indian and Malay cuisine are the most dominant culinary options in Johor Bahru. The hawker centres are recommended sites when tourists want a cheap dining option with the locals. Dishes like roti canai and nasi lemak are popular options in JB. Restaurants are spread across the city, and compared to nearby Singapore the food is reasonably cheap. There isn’t much in the way of bars in Johor Bahru. However, visitors will still find a few Western-style watering holes, including T.G.I. Fridays and the Duty Free Zone.
Shopping in Johor Bahru
One of Johor Bahru’s most enticing features is its shopping scene. There are dozens of shopping malls, department stores and hypermarkets, all of which offer a variety of products at cheaper prices than in neighbouring Singapore.
When it comes to accessibility, City Square is JB’s leading mall, while KSL City is certainly the largest and most modern shopping haven in the city. There is also the Jalan Segget Bazaar, which sells clothes, watches, accessories and a range of other popular items every day of the week.
