“Inspiring setting and fantastic dining”
The Bastide de Capelongue offers the very essence of Provencal style and fine dining. The service is both friendly, professional and stylish. Staff, dressed in traditional linen garments, are attentive and relaxed. The rooms are furnished with close attention to the heritage of this part of France and most rooms have a balcony or terrace. Air-conditioning might have helped after the hottest of days. The pool area overlooks Bonnieux and the valley beyond, as does the restaurant terrace. Watching the sunset below the far end of the valley, whilst the village lights up in front of you, is a magical treat. The gardens, dominated by lavendar bushes and herb plants, invite you to stroll and unwind. The restaurant is not to be missed. The chef, Eduard Loubet is a charismatic presence, often talking to guests, occasionally serving dessert courses personally. On the first evening we opted for the Senteurs de Provence set menu, a gastronomic tour de force that is a good introduction to the a la carte menu. But on subsequent evenings we opted to eat a la carte, with the en croute truffle as a starter highlight and the beef en croute and pork medaillons as stand out main courses. The cheese trolley, or chariot in this case, is the best I've ever encountered and, as a dessert, the souffle is unforgettable. Expect fabulous service and expect courses to be interspersed with other surprises to taste. Not a cheap night out but, you're buying an experience not just a meal.
