“Grasmere Red Lion Hotel”
We stayed in a standard room for three nights during September 2007. The room was small but comfortable. The hotel was well kept and the quality of the breakfast was very good. An ideal hotel to base your trip to the Lake District.
“Recommended mid-range hotel with relaxing lounge.”
We chose this hotel primarily for it's location right in the centre of Grasmere, and were not expecting too much from the hotel itself. However, on arrival we were pleasantly surprised by the cosy lounge, good size and well appointed bedroom, and friendly/helpful staff. The connected Lamb Inn pub has a range of reasonable good value pub food, and real ales, so we has two evening meals there. The breakfast was not the best I have had but was perfectly acceptable, with the staff being very good and pleased to serve. We found the atmosphere in the hotel to be just ideal for us, not too quiet, but not too noisy, and the large comfortable lounge a great place to chill out with a drink whilst keeping out of the incessant Lakes rain! If you are after a homely hotel with good facilities that is not upmarket enough to make you feel uncomfatable in walking clothes and with a wet dog in tow, this is the place.
“over priced,poor staff information from staff.”
my specific request was that it had broadband wifi ,the staff said oh yes we have it ,it's in the loft some where, you can pick it up in most of the rooms and the lounge, how wrong they where. then after telling me they don't know how to connect to it , it must be my fault, i also had room service the food came in parts had to phone down each time, food over cooked and poor quality.
“No wifi”
Firstly there were some very good staff at the hotel. The breakfast staff were polite and friendly - even though they had run out of vegitarian sausages. Also the member of staff who I checked out with was very good - actually sounding as if she wanted to help - but all too late. However the member of staff on reception when I arrived and who I asked about connecting to the wifi was less than helpful. Okay so I wasn't expecting Bill Gates but firstly I was on the second floor and there was clearly no wifi available. In the lobby I was told if you stand over there - there is usually a good signal. So I sat in every seat in reception and the lounge trying to get a signal and whilst I could pick up the wifi it simply wouldn't connect. This has never happened before and I was also trying using two different devices. Given availability of wifi is an important reason for choosing a hotel I was very disappointed particularly as 3G signals are so low in the area. The hotel lost out on my custom for an evening meal as a consequence as we went elsewhere for a meal. So the hotel is nice but let down by the wifi, staff (minority) and sausages!
