“Perfect in Everyway...”
The Monterey Del Mar is perfectly located in the center of all the Central Pacfic Costa Rica has to offer. Only a 25 minute drive North to Jaco or Playa Hermosa and only a 35-40 minute drive to Manuel Antonio National Park. The staff here are bar none the best around. Polite, freindly and enjoyable to be around. The front desk was the most helpful of all. Helping with lost luggage, making reservations and constantly checking to see if there is anything we might need. I would recommend this resort to anyone that would like peace and comfort with a gorgeous, secluded view of the Pacific Ocean and an almost private beach.
“Best bang for the buck, Service, hospitality and seclusion”
A fantastic hotel with service with a smile, grounds are beautifully and immaculately cared for, staff welcomed and helped make trip enjoyable and without worries, offering advice and reservations for area attractions, restaurant on site with very good quality food and service, on a beach perfect for running and a romantic strolls to view sunrise and sunset, black sands with waves for the beginning surfer and tide pools for beach combing, walking distance of other hotels, no need for a car, taxis available with swift and courteous rides, English spoken by all staff, but not anglo exclusive, other hotels may be cheaper or with more luxuries, but this is a perfect retreat for those wishing to experience Costa Rica. Highly recommended!
“nice beachfront location Pacific side Costa Rica”
exceptional quality and location. attentive, informed staff. beautiful grounds, high marks on cleanliness and maintenance. details attended to, even prepared for power loss, which we had. nice restaurant and service. great layout to preserve privacy and quiet times while not being remote.
“Scarlet Macaw migration twice daily”
This property gave good value for the price and the twice daily appearance of the scarlet macaws was as good a show as at the national parks but more comfortable.

This is a great getaway for those looking to be away from all the commercialism and crowds. Delightful staff and clean rooms...it was exactly what we wanted.
“Nice and serene, would go back”
I liked this hotel. Very clean and pretty good service. Only thing is that it's isolated from neighboring beach towns, about an hour away from the closest one, Jaco, and about 2 hours away from Manuel Antonio Park. Taxi is very expensive ($100 round trip to Jaco), I would recommend this hotel for those who are renting cars. It is definitely nice to stay here if you want to relax and get away from the noise. I truly felt like there was no one else on the beach besides my boyfriend and I, that was pretty neat. Oh yeah, they have pretty good food as well. One tip, withdraw in dollars, everyone accepts dollars throughout Costa Rica, and at least your only getting the good old ATM fee and not the currency xchange fee as well! If you still want to withdraw in colones, I did notice that I got a better xchange rate when withdrawing from the Quepos ATM instead of the one in the airport ( a book I read said that the airport ATM xchange rate was the best....not true).
“Nice easter at the beach”
The hotel was fine, but a little old and they need to take care of some basic details of maintenance.

Hotel grounds are beautiful..very secluded..beach was nice. Food at restaurant was okay...service was okay .We found the Xandria restaurant the last night of our stay which was just a walk down the beach from our hotel..to have amazing food...wish we found it the first night. Top notch service and amazing food at the Xandria restaurant. Monterey del Mar front desk help was okay depending on who you were dealing with! Mark hooked us up with an amazing company Amigos Del Rio for White River Rafting and Canopy Tours..highly reccomend this company!!! Rooms at hotel were clean..but could use some sprucing up..to match the beautiful grounds. No activities to do at the hotel other than the beach and the pool. Overall, nice hotel if you are just looking for a place to lay your head down at night!
“Pacer”
The location of the hotel is scary, not too crazy about it. Our restroom was funky the entire time, I’m not sure if housekeeping was actually cleaning the place. The restaurant was a disappointment. I will never stay there again. My costa rica experience was a disappointment!!!!
