“Fantastic get-a-way!”
Otterburn was a fantastic place for a quick weekend get-a-way. The food in the restaraunt was outstanding. The staff was friendly and attentive. The location is perfect for checking out local historic sites such as Hadrian's Wall.
“Excellent Hotel”
Excellent hotel not a lot to say really everything was fantastic with the hotel, and it was also very good value. The room we got was lovely and clean and modern. Cannot fault the hotel in any way.
“Great Hotel”
Hotel was lovely, rooms were great and set ina lovely little village location.
“Not quite up to scratch”
Although deluxe rooms were booked, we were given cheaper executive rooms - didn't discover the difference until we returned. Telephone a disaster: woke me up both nights flashing that there was a message but there were no instructions re how to listen or delete the message. Cold showers in the morning. Bill a big mix-up, genuine I think but it took 25 minutes to sort out. Excellent restaurant however...the stay could have been so much better overall.
“Good but not great”
A nice Victorian building in superb grounds which can't quite make up its mind what it is - boutique hotel or traditional country pile - and consequently ends up being neither. The garish 'Harry's Bar' (which contrasts with the former splendour of the rest of the historic building) doesn't have any decent beer at all - fizzy keg beer and no good quality bottles. They definitely need someone who understands bars and stocking them! The wine list isn't bad though. Staff could do with a bit more training - a waiter picking his nose and serving food with dirty fingernails I can do without. The restaurant menu is reasonable but very limited - don't expect haute cuisine! Rooms are very comfortable but ours was small and cramped despite us having upgraded to a 'luxury' double.

“Run on a shoestring”
Beautiful setting, beautiful building. A really odd place however which appears to take Fawlty Towers as its role model. When we arrived they had double booked and after a confusing 30 minute wait in the reception we were offered a room downgrade but complimentary dinner in the restaurant - which we accepted (these things happen). 10 minutes after checking into the room we received a phone call from the restaurant telling us that the restaurant was fully booked but we could eat in the bar if we wanted. We were too bemused to argue so accepted this. A bar snack of 4 ham sandwiches and a plate of chips then took two hours from order and they forgot the chips. A party of 4 next to us who had also been waiting for 4 sandwiches told us that reading reviews, they had been warned that despite it being a lovely hotel (bulding) it was run by kids. (We also didn't receive an early call despite asking for one and they forgot to deliver a newspaper) In summary staff all very pleasant, beautiful building, clean rooms - loads and loads of training required however. Alternatively stay in the Hotel, take your chances on the room and eat somewhere else. Don't go if its a special occasion.
