“Quality Hotel”
The hotel was clean and the Staff were very friendly - taking time to answer all queries, particularly where to visit. Although the hotel is not within walking distance of Downtown Portland, the bus stops outside. I would recommend this hotel.
“Great Stay”
I was surprised when I followed the map directions to this Howard Johnsons. I'd never been to this area before, and was concerned, but this Howard Johnsons was a great stay! The front desk people were pretty friendly in the evening, a tiny bit grumpy in the morning, but it was the same guy. It was very clean, lots of free parking and extremely close and easy to get on & off the freeway. It was a very quiet room, and the bed was very comfortable and the room seemed like it had been re-done not to long ago so it was all very clean. The towels were a bit ruff, but clean, and the bathroom was very clean and the shower had a nice hard flow and plenty of hot water. I need a bit more from breakfast than just carbs, so I had some pretty good coffee, and a almost unripe apple, but there were bagels, and cereal, and juice, maybe toast too. I don't think I'd feel comfortable walking in this neighborhood at night but we felt completely comfortable in the parking lot and going to our room. It had a fridge and microwave, and the tv clicker worked!
“great locatio”
The hotel is close to the airport and has a free shuttle that will pick you up and take you back. The hotel had a nice heating and ac system. We got there early and they let us check in early and even moved us up to a king from a queen. The room was nice, it had a compact frig and microwave. The room was simple and had what we needed, it was not luxurious but it was sufficient for our stay. The rates are fairly low in comparison to other hotels in the area. The surprising thing about our hotel was that you can print for free from the computer in the lobby. The employees were friendly and very helpful.
“Good Stay”
Good stay, we liked all of the above.
“excellent location”
This was a great place to stay in Portland. The staff was so friendly and helpful. Even the free breakfast was good. We will return.
“Very nice for the price”
I was impressed, considering the price. The airport shuttle was very convenient, and the driver was helpful, courteous, and friendly. Check-in and check-out were quick and easy. The room was clean and comfortable. It had a refrigerator and microwave, which was nice. The only problem was that the drain in the shower was slow, but this was fixed after the first day, even though I did not report it. I appreciated the variety that was available for the free breakfast, which was better than you usually get from a motel this cheap. There were english muffins and bread (a toaster was available), with butter and jam to put on them, and several kinds of cereal, with milk. There were also coffee and tea and several kinds of juice. They have a pool, but it was closed. It's only open for the summer (June-August I think?), so if this is important to you, be sure to check before you go. Overall, I was quite happy with my stay. If you want a luxury hotel, of course, this isn't really the place for you. But if you're looking for a decently nice place for a cheap price, I think this might be the best place in the area.
“Pleasantly surprised”
Initially we chose this hotel because it was the LOWEST rate on Expedia. To our pleasant surprise it exceeded all expectations for a great value stay. Then unexpectedly we needed an additional night's stay to which the staff accomodated us perfectly. They even provided us a "sack breakfast" when we had to catch their shuttle to the airport at 4:30am! Very friendly staff and pleasant accomadations. If you are looking for a bargain with unexpected benefits, this is your hotel.
“Howard Johnson @ PDX”
Great service! Business center is nice if you dont have a laptop. Room was just what I needed for my trip, and the price range I was looking for! Close to the bus stop and it's less than $3 for a day ticket to ride any public transportation. Great stay!
“Portland, OR - GORGEOUS territory w/ mts, waterfalls, breathtaking!!”
Having the free shuttle to and from the airport, being only 2.5 mi from the airport is such a great thing! Allows one to book flights early or late, and have transport to the hotel. The lovely, charming little breakfast nook was such fun - free breakfast sitting around talking w/ such interesting people from all over. The pool was lovely, lounge chairs. When we left at 4am on the shuttle, the staff gave us fresh coffee and a breakfast bag of food items - so nice! All these are the positives. The negatives: our first night we got in late to find entire room smelled of vomit! floor was still wet... ugh! That was highly unpleasant. When we spoke to the desk, they immediately moved us to a better room. The walls were thin, and we had a very noisy, partying, rude neighbor who kept us awake from 4am on, slamming doors, talking loudly. And we learned the neighborhood is dangerous ghetto. One hotel guest said she tried to go for a walk about 7:30pm and police told her to get inside, it wasn't safe outside. My daughter and I went for several mile runs every day and had no problems... but we did realize we were in a poor and sketchy neighborhood. I would definitely stay here again bec. of the closeness to airport and stores, the friendliness of staff, the breakfast... but just remain aware of neighborhood issues.
“perfect for a short stay”
i found this place on expedia for very cheap. i expected (from other reviews i had read) to walk into a seedy motel in a bad neighborhood. there's nothing really wrong with the neighborhood, from what i've seen. going off of what i have read about the portland, i knew that there were a lot of adult stores in the area. didn't bother me, as i have no kids. what i found was a nicely updated hotel with friendly staff and a convenient location. upon walking in to check in my first day, they offered to upgrade my room because of the length of my stay. they offer a free pass to a nearby health club (which i was scared to walk into at first, but it was fine and the man at the desk was nice) and my upgraded suite was directly across from the laundry room and a snack machine. the only downside to my stay was that it was 85 degrees in may and they didn't have the pool open yet because it was not yet memorial day.
