Dining
The Cedar Restaurant - Overlooking a cedar tree said to have been planted by Queen Elizabeth I, this award-winning restaurant has elaborate plasterwork, period furniture, and a stained-glass ceiling. Bristol-blue glasswear and a vase of floating flowers adorn every table, where breakfast, lunch, and dinner are served from an international menu. Open every day, with live music and dancing on Saturday evenings.
Phoenix Bar & Grill - In the more modern wing of the hotel, this intimate bar overlooks the indoor swimming pool, and features a menu of drinks and light international dishes. There are wooden bar stools, clusters of armchairs and tables, a large-screen TV for sports and news, and a photo gallery of sports heroes. Open from late morning to late evening.
The Lounge - A long, oak-paneled room embellished with coats of arms, a gold-and-burgundy ceiling, and solid oak and copper fireplace. Serves an afternoon menu of teas, coffees, light snacks, and sandwiches.
The Solarium - Adjoining the lobby, the Solarium is semi-formal venue for a light lunch or afternoon tea, with small tables set before traditional sofas and armchairs. Heavy tied-back curtains frame floor-to-ceiling views of the hotel's vast lawns and golf course, and French doors open to the terrace.
Tempus Bar - New venue, ideal for a pre-dinner drink.

“Excellent Value Hotel In Croydon”
Really Enjoyable stay, the room was comfortable and clean easily better than the Hilton.
“A relaxing break”
Lovely hotel and surroundings. Comfortable room
“Lovely historic hotel”
The 1,000 year hotel and grounds were beautiful. The carpeting was a bit worn by the rooms but the bar, sitting areas and rooms were very nice. The woman at reception was friendly and helpful and the indoor and outdoor pools and sauna were free to use which was a great surprise. I look forward to returning when the weather is nicer to enjoy the gardens. There are also tennis courts and a golf course so an excellent retreat.
“very comfortable”
Hotel was perfect for our overnight stay. Very comfortable beds and all clean. Didnt eat there or use the facilities but would definitely stay there again.
“Good overall”
Clean, smart friendly. Breakfast buffet was a little disappointing. We were one of the first to breakfast but still the hash browns and eggs looked like they had been there a while! Dinner was lovely though.
“sure, if you have a reason to be there”
We stayed at this hotel in order to attend a wedding nearby and the reception at the hotel. The services were great, the wedding reception was fabulous. The reception dinner by the hotel was outstanding. The buffet breakfast the next morning was about average but was pricey, it seemed, for the quality and variety of the food. This hotel might be fine for those wishing a rest and/or a country experience, and all I can say about the golf is that the course looked lovely under lots of snow. AS for location, it is much too distant from London, and from the train to get there from Selsdon to be a good base for London tourist activities. The staff at the hotel were unfailingly patient and polite, even under the stress of a major winter storm and Christmas week social activities.
“disappointing food”
A really lovely hotel and leisure centre, however, there is a repair patch on the tennis court, which is unfinished and was there last year too. You can't play a game of doubles on that court and need to be careful of your footing if playing singles. The tennis courts are not maintained. We've stayed there 4 times now, for a two night break and this time the service was the best it's been. The food lets the hotel down. The breakfast is always luke warm and the rolls, croissants and pain au chocolat are poor quality, rock hard. The toaster takes forever and I have learnt now to make the toast first before getting other cooked food. Both mornings we had to wait for eggs. The scambled egg is cold and wet. This stay we had dinner in the hotel resturant, the first time since our first visit, 4 years ago. Dinner is massively overpriced for what it is and although it was hot it was just ok, nothing better. We are planning another visit in February 2012 but may not eat in the hotel at all but the lovely rooms, promixity to London, quiet location and pleasant staff made our stay very enjoyable.
“A very relaxing break”
We stayed at this hotel for one night, a girly night out, and enjoyed every minute. We made full use of the facilities - pool, jacuzzi, sauna and steam room, not to mention the extras - facial, massages etc. Unfortunately missed out on the gym as we forgot our trainers! All the facilities were clean and in full use except the pool was closed for a short time when we first arrived. The rooms were fantastic, we had the executive rooms which had a lounge area and beautiful views over the golf course. The food was also very good. Buffet style for both dinner and breakfast with a very good variety and plenty if you wanted seconds or thirds! Overall a very relaxing break and very good value for money.
“Suburban retreat”
Impressive period building, great views, quiet and comfortable, warm and accomodating service.
“Loved it”
we booked for valentines weekend and everything was great. the restaraunt was fully booked but that is the only complaint we could find. The hotel is very grand and the staff friendly polite and helpful. We will be returning!!
