“Sol Y Mar Sea Star, Taba "home away from home"”
I have just returned from my 3rd visit to Sol Y Mar. It was as always very enjoyable; quite simply the staff are my second family!!! I can't wait to go back in November & celebrate my birthday with them all! I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone wishing to visit Taba.
“Would love to go back”
Given how crappy the US dollar is nowadays, egypt is one of those last bastions where you can actually get a bang for your buck. This hotel was a delight to stay in between the two outdoor pools, inclusive meals, friendly staff and its proximity to the land border crossing with israel at taba. It's mostly the brits that populate the hotel though we did hear some other languages spoken. One note of interest though if crossing the land border at taba back into israel, make sure you have 20 LEP for a customs tax, which i did not know about before leaving (suggest the hotel make a note about that). Diving at the Red Sea is nearby, and the hotel can arrange some sight seeing tours for you. You can actually get a better deal if you negotiate with local taxis out to places like Mount Sinai and Saint Catherines Monastery. Day trip to Cairo is doable from here too but you are better off going there for three days given the amount of things to do. Strongly recommend Sol Y Mar. And by the way everything in Egypt is negotiable.
“The best place to chill out.”
Having spent many Xmases in hotels abroad, we have to say this was the best ever. The gala buffet was amazing, a wonderful display of many, many choices of excellent food. Santa finding us on the beach to give us a gift was a great laugh. In general, we recommend the hotel for good friendly service, best quality food and cleanliness. If you want to chill out, it is ideal, though there are lots of fantastic trips on offer like Petra in Jordan, Jerusalem and Cairo. You can dive or snorkel the Red Sea or just brown in the sun. We will be returning.
“Fab!”
Lovely hotel in remote location, brilliant for not doing anything at all, total relaxation! Staff couldn't do enough for you, all very friendly and very good value. Plenty of choice for each meal, lots of nice touches ie provision of beach and poolside towels each day. Would definately go again, soon hopefully!
“Sol Y Mar Sea Star”
extremely clean hotel and friendly staff go out of there way to make you feel welcome
“They try hard”
Very nice hotel, good food, nice shisha (hookah) tent, friendly staff.. They try hard to become an all inclusive hotel like any other top beach destination. The only negative is that the beach is 300 yards from the hotel (it doesn't seem like far away but it gets really hot there)
“Hotel”
The hotel was nice and clean, but the food could use some work.
“Filled the need”
We needed a place to stay for the night just inside the Egyptian border. This is what brought us to this hotel. It is an all-inclusive, but everything is shut by midnight. You can't even get a glass of water from them after midnight! There is really nothing in the surrounding area, so you don't have an option to go somewhere else. The hotel was relatively inexpensive, so that worked for us. I would recommend that anyone travelling in this area go a little further down the road to Taba Heights and stay at one of the wonderful resorts there.
“Not a 4* Hotel”
I was very disappointed with this hotel. The food was very poor - The selection of food at breakfast was limited and in the evenings the choice was poor and not 4*. In fact on one evening the main meat was liver. Drinks were limited to Egyptian only and were served in plastic glasses!! The hotel was not clean and in the rooms the mats on the floor were filthy. Watching pool attendants cleaning the pool area and brushing dirty water into the pool itself did not inspire confidence. The hotel is isolated away from Taba Heights and to taxi there is very expensive!! Beware of the journey from Sharm to the hotel and be prepared for drivers averaging 145km!! I will not be back!
