“A real gem - wish we'd booked for longer”

The Homestead is a wonderful place to stay, located well away from the main highway, and providing a small selection of individual cottages each nestled in their own little private area. We spent 3 nights in the "Garden" cottage (wish we'd booked for longer), which was beautifully decorated, spotlessly clean, extremely comfortable, and excellent value for money. It was one of the most peaceful and relaxing places we've ever stayed, and the proprietors were two of the nicest, friendliest, and helpful people you could ever hope to meet. We used the homestead as a base for hiking in Yosemite park, and although it takes around 30 mins driving to reach the South park entrance (and a further 30 to 40 mins to Yosemite village), it was well worth the little bit of extra travelling time to return to the welcoming and relaxing cottage each night rather than staying at one of the closer Yosemite hotels. The local town of Oakhurst is only a five minute drive away, and has all the amenities you would require (a choice of large supermarkets, a range of places to eat, and even a local multi-screen cinema if you can possibly drag yourself away from the cottage... we couldn't). There is much to see and do in the surrounding area, and it would be quite easy to spend a week at the Homestead without even visiting Yosemite Park itself. I would highly recommend the Homestead Cottages to anyone wishing to visit Yosemite Park and the surrounding area.

“A gem of a hotel!”

As with ALL other reviews we had read for this hotel, we agree it is a gem of a place to stay. Cindy and Larry have created a real home from home environment, and nothing seems too much trouble for them and their staff. If we return to Yosemite at any point in the future, we would not consider even looking for anywhere else to stay. We cannot recommend this place enough.

“A cabin in the woods that feels like home”

The Homestead reminds me of our family's cabin in the Pocono Mountains. The "room" is a stand alone cabin that is part of a mountain side community. The buildings are spaced so they are not obtrusive to each other, yet they feel like a little community. The gas fireplace is simple, but effective. The lack of city lights allow for great views of the night sky. There is a common picnic area with a gas grill. Each cabin has a patio so you can sit and read while enjoying the fresh air and nature that surrounds you. We arrived "after hours", but the office phone dials the Innkeeper who showed up immediately. She guided us through the operation of everything in the cabin. The fridge and stove/oven are comparable to an efficiency apartment, but the kitchen has good counter space and they supply everything you need to cook for yourself; including a corkscrew and wine glasses. DirecTV is provided along with a flat screen TV, but no DVD or BluRay player. They even provide a pair of robes in the bathroom for after your shower. The only flaw in our stay was the bedroom. The mattress "crinkled" when you move. That sound (and the bedroom acoustics) had my fiancee thinking an animal was rooting through our bags in the kitchen. The bedroom was cooler than the living room. The floors are all tile, so bring your slippers in the colder months. Whether it's a one night stay, or a week long vacation, The Homestead provides the comforts of home in a quiet setting in the woods.

“Out with Nature”

Great place to stay, friendly staff who ensured the best stay possible. A short drive to Yosemite, Oakhurst and Ahwahnee but set out in the hills, very secluded. Can not recommend highly enough

“Comfortable Cottage”

The Homestead was like a little home away from home. It was very quiet and peaceful, on a beautiful hill side not too far from Oakhurst. The owners are quite friendly and offered us good information on places to see in Yosemite and where to start first. We really appreciated coming back each night to a nice, cozy cottage with clean and comforatable ammeneties.
