Swissôtel Makkah
10/10 Excellent
"The place had a nice feel to it and the staff really stood out. They spoke English fine and just made things comfortable right away. My room had this direct view of the Kaaba that felt special every time I looked out. Housekeeping worked around my timing without any trouble. Abdu in particular was easy to chat with and always seemed cheerful. That part was consistent. The buffet though was a letdown. The food came across as pretty bland most days and the kebabs turned out dry. It got a bit better one night when there was a wedding event on. Bread warmer was only available at breakfast and not later, so no curry or kebabs with warm bread. A couple mornings after ten they were already clearing trays even though service was supposed to run longer. The way they did it felt sudden with no notice. One day I was walking in to grab some food, and literally took away food right in front of me, as if they did not see any of the people queued up for food. Elevators took time too but that seems common across the tower hotels. I would probably return for the view and how the team handled things yet the dining side could use some work, and I might just not take the buffer and enjoy food from host of other options available in the building; there are plenty of options and they are cheaper!"
