Drivers aged 21 and over can road trip around Phuket in a rental car. If you’re a young driver, a daily surcharge will apply. You’ll usually be restricted to a few car categories, such as compact and mid-size, and may also have to purchase comprehensive insurance. Be sure to enter the correct age of the main driver when booking to learn if any restrictions or surcharges apply.

You may also need your own proof of coverage if you decide to opt out of the company’s insurance plan. Requirements are likely to differ between rental providers, so it’s wise to check in advance.

Many places overseas require an International Driving Permit for foreigners to drive legally, so apply for one if you plan to hit the road in Phuket. This permit must be carried with a valid U.S. License. We highly recommend obtaining this document before leaving the U.S.
