I would have thought that a pretty basic requirement of a hotel is to provide an evening meal. Not the Babbacombe apparantly. We were only told at check-in that the restaurant was fully booked, there only seemed to be one 'sitting' and they made no effort whatsoever to offer alternatives or try to suggest other places nearby. So after a 4 and a half hour drive from West Sussex, we had to go out again in search of something to eat. Luckily for us, a nearly hotel (The Royal) couldn't have been more helpful, giving us an excellent meal. We returned to the Babbacombe for a coffee and my wife asked for a liqeuer coffee. The young barman, while doing his very best to be helpful really should have asked a supervisor for advice, because he had absolutely no idea how to make a liqeuer coffee. It ended up being made with milk and not cream! Also, it is not at all obvious from the website that there is virtually no parking at the hotel and they email you AFTER the booking is confirmed to offer parking at £10 per night! On the positive side, the room was OK and the breakfast was well-cooked and generous. At checkout, it was pretty perfunctory and we were not asked at all if we had enjoyed our stay. Overall impression - they do pretty much the minimum they can get away with. Disappointing.
