Lovely place
Barbican House is lovely. Very comfortable bed and room was decorated very nicely. Breakfast with tea was wonderful ( you need to order the night before and it is an extra charge). Durga is lovely and even ordered a taxi for me to get to the airport.

Dear Domb,You were complaining from the moment you stepped inside. We do not advertise a lift as one of the facilities in our guest house so you should have been aware of this. We did ask if you needed help with your luggage but you said no, though seeing your wife struggle we stepped in to help. Unfortunately we can't control the weather and yes it was warm, however all rooms have a ceiling fan and we even provided you with a portable air cooler. Not sure what else we could have done. Great location and nice to be able to park there- York is NOT an east place to park. Room was comfortable and clean. A very charming place overall, and very good value. Not pleased that the breakfast was unavailable to us- as we hadn't booked it. We were late arriving the previous evening, but were not asked about breakfast the next morning. One usually assumes the 2nd B in B&B is a given- even if it costs extra, as is advertised. But we woke up expecting breakfast and were told we should have booked it the night before. The place is renowned for its excellent breakfast, but had to find it elsewhere. Some better communication would be beneficial.

Your reservation was for room only and you did not mention anything about it when you arrived late so we assumed you did not want to have breakfast. What a wonderful guest house. Our beautiful room overlooked the city walls and gate. We had great beds and were within a short walk to the city center. Durga, the owner, ensured we had all that we needed, including a place to park. We would happily stay here again.

Great location
The guest house is perfect location for York centre and the host was very friendly and helpful room was spacious and had very good choice of facilities compared to hotels where limited choice if tea and coffee in room and also bathroom even had ear buds for example we would definitely stay here again if visiting York

Wonderful hosts, breakfast and room
A wonderful old home ... family hosts...all attention to details met. Durga and his wife served a delicious breakfast in English style.Room was relatively small as most are but very comfortable with an opening window.. recommend

The hosts are super-friendly and attentive to all guests. My experience was excellent. The location is at a busy crossroads so there can be noise from traffic in the early hours. Fortunately the owners installed some fans which help distribute cooler air round the premises.

Exceptional comfort and service
Our inkeeper Durga was an exceptional host. He supplied us with a wide variety of information on local sites of interest, choices of restaurants, etc. At every opportunity he went out of his way to insure our stay was pleasant. The inn is located in a wonderful location, a very short walk to York's Walmgate and the city center. Onsite parking was a definite plus. Our room was exceptionally clean and comfortable. Breakfast onsite was delicious and of the highest quality. Our stay at the Barbican Inn was the highlight of our motoring tour.

Enjoyable overnight stay
If you're after a comfortable stay in a clean hotel close to York town centre, this could be for you. We stopped overnight and had a very pleasant stay, in clean accomodation. The only slight disappointment was breakfast wasn't available. No big deal though and probably a result of Omicron. Recommended

I stayed here for one night with my partner. We just wanted a city break in York. It was perfect. Such a pretty room and so cosy. The bathroom was lovely and I had everything we needed. Definitely recommend!!!

My Dad passed away after your 7 day cut-off. I tried to cancel the booking. The hotel owner was very supportive and I have the highest regard for him. You, Expedia, were awful. I will never, ever use you again and would never recommend you to anyone.

This is a nice bnb in York. On a slightly busy road and my room was on the ground floor facing the road, although this didn't disturb my sleep. The bed was very comfortable and the bedding was soft and clean. I slept excellently. The host was very accomodating and welcoming and I couldn't recommend him highly enough! Overall a great stay.

The room was lovely and very clean but I do miss it not being serviced and having to ask for additional coffee etc (which we didn't do as we missed the opportunity but managed without). Breakfast was brilliant. Will definitely recommend to friends and family and stay here again if ever in York again.

Really lovely place to stay

Really enjoyed my time at the Barbican. Walking distance from the train station and the city centre. Was very clean and spacious. Durga was very friendly and welcoming, he gave us suggestions for the city and was a great host.

Victorian elegance and hospitality
I traveled to York for a concert at the Barbican and chose Barbican House for its location and beautiful Victorian style. I was not disappointed. The owner waited for me to arrive and was very accommodating. It was a hot day and he arranged - before I arrived - to have a fan in my room. Breakfast was fantastic. I chose the full English breakfast which was served in a well-appointed dining room. We shared wonderful conversation and I feel like I have made new friends.

A warm friendly welcome
A great little hotel which was very convenient for attending a venue at The Barbican theatre. The room was clean and comfortable and we were given an extra fan as temperatures were high because of the beautiful sunny weather. The staff were welcoming and took time to give us advice about good eating places and directions to various attractions despite it being a very busy time for them.

Perfectly placed
A very friendly and helpful welcome from the proprietor. The room was to a good standard, though a little warm due to the very hot weather. Sleeping with the windows open resulted in some traffic noise, but not too much. Barbican House is perfectly placed for access to York city centre. The only downside for me was that I had to leave in the morning before breakfast was available, though I was offered the option to have some cereals left out. I would recommend Barbican House.

We could not fault our stay. The Guest House was very comfortable, very clean and breakfast great plenty of choice and the host couldn’t do enough for us. Attention to detail was was spot on. We will Defoe return and recommend to our friends.

A wonderful small hotel in a great location.
This was a wonderful small hotel. The service was excellent, the room was comfortable and the location excellent. The owner of the hotel was gracious and welcoming. He truly worked hard to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. Breakfast was made to order. It was a wonderful way to start the day in the beautiful city of a York. The room contained a variety of teas, coffee and delicious biscuits. Would definitely recommend this hotel.

A very warm welcome from the owners. Attention to details like coffee teas And biscuit selection was a very nice touch. The bed was comfortable and room warm and cosy.
