Of the largest beaches in Western Phuket, Kamala is certainly the calmest and most inviting. It sits to the north of busy Patong, giving tourists a quieter getaway, while still just minutes from the action. Kamala was hit hard by the 2004 tsunami, but it has since recovered. The beach is lined by lovely little restaurants and bars, not to mention a number of beautiful beach resorts.Don’t Miss
Kamala may be more subdued than nearby beaches like Patong and Karon, but it still offers several excellent attractions.
Spending the days just lazing upon Kamala’s beach is a great way to spend a holiday here. The sea floor here is sandy, so kids can enjoy frolicking in the water safely. Also, it usually remains less crowded than other western Phuket beaches. It is almost impossible to go to Kamala and not get a rejuvenating massage too.
Phuket Fantasea is also located along Kamala Beach. This amazing dinner theatre extravaganza is a must experience for any newcomer to Phuket. The show is so spectacular visitors can certainly enjoy it more than once. The food and entertainment also help make it one of Phuket’s best attractions.
Kamala is also home to a beautiful temple which sits on the southern reaches of the beach. It was damaged rather severely during the 2004 tsunami, but has since been redeveloped, thanks to the Australian TV show Backyard Blitz. Visiting the temple itself is a very calming experience, and the tsunami memorials and pictures are great to check out too.Shopping
This small beach district of western Phuket doesn’t have the shopping glamour of other areas of the island. Tourists will find several convenience stores, plenty of tour operators and various tailors offering cheap suits in Western fashion styles. Be wary when purchasing a suit from Kamala tailors, as the quality can sometimes be disappointing.
