Wow!! What a special place. Our favorite accommodation on our trip to Japan. The small streets and alleys are so charming and being next to the Yasaka Pagoda is incredible. Head out early in the morning before the crowds and it's magical to walk around, especially with the cherry blossoms blooming. The alley way to walk down to house is small and it feels like a secret place to stay! Perfect location to explore Gion area and head up to Kiyomizu-dera. We were only in Kyoto for one night and so happy we stayed here. The house itself is traditional and beautiful. The futons on the floor were incredibly comfy. It felt a bit chilly inside as we were there in March, but we cranked the heaters in the rooms and it was comfortable. It was great to have the slippers there to keep feet warm. Highly recommend!

Hi Amy,Thanks so much for the wonderful review. We are happy you enjoyed our machiya and the neighbourhood. It truly is a magical area filled with so much old world charm. Ninenzaka-Gion is considered one of the oldest neighbourhoods in all of Japan with 3 Unesco World heritage sites, Samurai homes and lots of traditional buildings and pagodas Thanks again and enjoy the rest of your stay in Japan.

This was an awesome traditional Japanese style house - good facilities (especially the bathroom), beautiful area, very clean and very quiet. Great location - in the middle of Ninensaka, very close to Sanneizaka, Kiyomizu Dera, Sakaya Shrine and Kodaiji Temple, etc. Will definitely stay here again for my next Kyoto visit.

Regret we can't stay longer at this house!
This is the random ryokan that I found in google. I've been requested by my husband to book our stay in an oldiest japanese neighbourhood in Kyoto which is me and him did not have any idea where was the exact location of that. Armed with just google street review and search from spot to spot, we found that Kiyomizu has the perfect location of the ancient Japan. Then we found Kiyomizu Machiya inn meet our budget and what we had in mind. We stay here for just 1 night just to feel what it's like living in Ryokan. Though we have difficulty to stroll the alley with our baby stroller and luggage, but it worth the effort when we enter the house. Akemi, the owner of the house, previously provide me with bunch of useful information and also answer all of my question and also really helpful. Everything was perfect, our stay in Kiyomizu Machiya inn was marvelous, the house was really impressive. I am beyond grateful to the owner to let me stay in the house. We are sorry if we bother you all the time and if any wrongdoing during our stay. Will absolutely reccommend this place to everyone that plan to have a memorable stay in Kyoto.

Dear Nene, Thank you so much for the kind review about our place. It was a pleasure to host you and we are happy you liked the old world charm of our machiya and neighbourhood. You are correct in choosing one of the oldest areas in Kyoto, if not Japan, where you can still get the feel of what it was like hundreds of years ago. With so many Unesco World heritage sites, restaurants and shops within walking distance from our place, it's perfect for site seeing. Unfortunately, the cobblestone lanes are not always the best for baby strollers. We look forward to hosting you in the future and thanks again for staying at Kiyomizu Machiya Inn! Akemi
