The location is really convenient for me, close the metro station, close the shopping and all kind of restaurants. The staffs are very nice and friendly. The room is very space, with city view. The breakfast has a lot of choices and they change items daily.

Good...with a few exceptions
Overall, good deal, but we didn't like that the room temperature couldn't be lowered (stuck at 28 & 29 degrees the whole time)...had to sleep on top of our covers most of the night.

It is a brand new hotel. It locates in a dense older neighborhood. The transportation such as for the MTR is quite convenient. You can walk through the neighborhood to the river. The neighborhood is safe but streets' cleanliness may not be in a high standard.

Good location, 3 mins walk from bus/ metro station and easy to go to Disneyland/ airport. Though no huge/ signature shopping mall, have basic restaurants at vicinity or take 2-5 metro stations to Starbucks Reserve Roastery or some famous shopping street.

I like the reasonable location, surrounding amenities and shop nearby. I don’t like the cleanliness of the room, there are not even a proper sitting in lobby. It’s apparent after one year of operations there are still area to the overall service not up to mark.

Amara hotel was very nice the staff was outstanding. I read previous reviews before booking with complaints about language barrier. I had absolutely no problem with language barrier. I’m fact I had paperwork that was in Mandarin the staff coordinated a delivery for me as I went out exploring the city for the day. The concierge, front desk, bell staff all superb. I will definitely be back.

Everything was just ok. I booked this hotel again for this year because my first impression was very helpful staffs and kindness, but this year trip was very different. The hotel swimming pool was close for no reason and lobby service was unprofessional. When we had a meeting with our partners in lobby cafe, our staff brought Starbucks coffee from next door to offer my boss and we were also going to order from The cafe. However, the manager came to our table and say our boss can not drink Starbucks coffee because it came from outside of the hotel. I thought it was strange and rude because they were not professional. They could be more accommodated whole situation but they ended up kicking us out of the cafe. It made our partners feel so uncomfortable and upset. I will not book this hotel ever again.

Need better staff
Hotel is pretty new, however, the cleaners are not reliable. I found they don't clean the toilet floor. We used two cups. Both were not cleaned. They left one unclean on the table, one with my lipstick putting back in the drawer. There were lots of staff standing around the lobby. But none of them will greet you. When you ask direction tips, they didn't show too enthusiastic as well.

Spent one night at the Amara. It is nice and new and about 2km from Shanghai Railway station. I forgot my iPad in my room and called from the train station in the afternoon. The next morning my iPad arrived in Nanjing because the hotel was nice enough to ship it straight to me! That is service people! I recommend this hotel, the pool is being renovated, the rooms are nice, the price is right, even a Thai restaurant on the premises. Brilliant all around! Cheers!

The room is very comfortable, well designed and a pleasure to stay in. Comfortable bed, restful tub with view of the city. Rainfall shower is also very nice along with the intelligent toilet. I extended my stay in Shanghai because of the hotel and I will be back as soon as possible.

Food not great. Double charged my room stay and it took me 2 months of emails and phone calls to get a refund. Worse part their attitude implied that it was my issue that caused the over charge. Regardless got my money back and will never stay there again.

Hotels.com said there was an airport shuttle. This was NOT accurate. No shuttle. 21 miles to Pudong, 45 min to 1 hour, 220 RMB. One of the deciding factors on choosing this location was the shuttle device. The staff was extremely friendly and accommodating however their English language skills were sub-par Location was close to the subway

Location is good, room is comfortable. But hotel staff really needs more training as their service is definitely not up to mark for a 5-star hotel. Even though we had booked a premier room type, the hotel staff upon our check-in insisted that it was deluxe room based on their records and refused to honour the booking, but advised that we check with Expedia instead.

The hotel gym is large and well equipped, with plenty of weights and machines, not just cardio. Location is also a good one - near the metro and a short cab ride to Nanjing Road / Jing’an Temple area. Lots of local food options nearby too.
